This seems to unreal, but I suspect that it's exactly the case. How much does a stock market investor have to swim upstream before overcoming these types of obstacles in addition to taxes, insider trading, investment firms betting against their own clients, and the list goes on...
It may be much better just to unplug the whole system, and leave it unplugged.

BTW the small investor has better odds of making money than large investors because the large investors move the stock prices too much as they trade in and out whereas the small investors can go all in quickly. Very few of the managed funds beat the index averages which proves that point.
