Can anyone here make sense of this eBay sale of an 1896 British Trade Dollar?

I realize the 1896B is scarce, but this appears to be an unusually high price for a circ. I've done business successfully with the seller before, so his credibility is NOT an issue. I believe Krause 38th is only $90 in XF.

The only thing I can think of is the bidders believe the coin to be Unc. The Krause value in Unc. is $500.

It's a very scarce piece, the first 96B I've seen in the last couple of years actually. No, I didn't buy it either but I can see someone paying that if they are tryng to put a date set together. NGC has a total of 5 graded by the way, only 2 in Unc.

Thanks JCM! I have to admit that I profiled the buyer based on their recent bid history, but that may be an irrelevant point.

I believe the seller accurately represented the coin as XF/AU, thus my surprise and wonderment.image
