LOL. I know man....its tough. This sniping "debate" thing has been going on so long though... Reminds me of when I was in middle school and I had to tell my best friend that the brand new jacket his mom bought him for Christmas was actually really ghey looking and people were making fun of him. He was such a great guy, except for that stupid ghey jacket. Somebody had to tell him.

Actually, as I re-read my post, I now see that those 2 stories have nothing to do with each other. I just happen to be on the phone with said friend while I was typing. My story telling skills leave much to be desired.

If you had told your friend over and over and over again that he looked ghey and he continued to deny it and think he looked cool, you would have had the exact same scenario as this one.

When I bid early and increase my bid later I seldom win so I seldom spend anything. When I snipe I win about 25% of the time so I am spending a pretty penny. Therefore I voted no. Dpeck is brighter than you guys are willing to admit.

Voted yes. I found that bidding on auctions early vs sniping them. I always end up paying a LOT more if I win them w/o sniping them...

Thumbs down on Dpeck's theory of bidding...

Guys look this is so clear. If you follow the stock market, a stock with a huge short interest can explode at any time with really no rime or reason.

I took heat when I explained to you a few months ago that stock market price movments and card price movements were extremely similar.

A rush of demand can increase the price significantly no matter what anyone wants.

The bottom line is there is no imediate supply of these cards.

We can debate all day long when the rush of new cards comes but the bottom line is their is current demand and that trumps price. There is an underlying bid for these cards and that is what keeps the snipe from stealing cards. It is very simple trust me.
  • I don't know one way or the other about the sniping question, but I still want to post in this thread to make it clear that I am a fan of the DPeck wrestling threads.

  • One last time for Dbag.

If you have a max price you are willing to pay, why in the hell would you keep bidding against someone else until you get to your max? If you do not bid the other bidder is not going to friggin outbid you. Set your snipe at your max.

Unless you really are completely retarded, this is common sense but you are the only one that can not see this. I guess the hundreds of users here with years of experience are all wrong and you are the one person that is correct.

Bill ask yourself this question. When was the last time you bid on a Rookie card of the magnitude of Ric Flair from this set with a PSA 10 population of 2. There are not three as Big Kahuna took the first one over to BGS. The bottom line is when you are dealing with a subset this small you can get price moves a snipe can't predict.

This card may one day have many more in this grade which I doubt; but the reality is I own the only other one and if someone else wants one none of us can predict the price I promise.

The only cards I bid on prior to the final seconds of the auction are the cards I really don't want to win but wouldn't mind having. That being said wrastlin cards fit that category I guess. I wouldn't want them unless I could get them for a song and then flip them to a dbag who is still stuck in his late 80's/early 90's hayday.

This should be fun to watch over the weekend, where's popcorn girl???
  • Why is this so difficult for you to understand? ALL these cards you keep using as examples were won with snipes. The bidders were just willing to bid more than you.

If you are willing to pay $400 for a card, set that as your snipe. Don't bid 10 times against someone else just to get to that price. Doesn't make a rats azz what the card is.

  • I like the wrestling threads that Dpeck either starts or contributes to. There always seems to be a lot of action in them.

I don't use a snipe program on ebay, but when I bid, I throw a bid up for the max I am willing to spend. If it gets bidded up, it gets bidded up.

Some people like snipe programs, others don't. I've never used one, and don't care for them.

And I still don't over pay image

My answer is Yes I save $

The god of Wrestling cards has blinded Dpeck's mind lest the light of the snipe shall shine unto him.

    Pray for him!!!

and May all the Dpeck's of the world bid on your auctions.

I just starting using a snipe service about 2 months ago and can definitely say it's saved me some money vs putting in my bid early.

  • I've never used a snipe.

I know what something is worth to me, and I only bid up to that amount. If I win, I win. If not, I'll waite until the next one comes up for bid (most things ebay has many of, I'll get one.)

    That is just my thoughts.

I had a great time reading this thread. If I had listened to the SNIPE advice I would have never won many cards in my sets.

The case is closed, no snipe works on low pop cards.

If you disagree ask the 84 Donruss guys or the 78 Topps in the past six weeks.

The world is too big to predict what someone else will pay when the supply is limited.

I will contest after watching thousands of auctions in the past year that using a SNIPE bid is very efficiant and will help you win many auctions and perhaps at a lower price in some cases.

When it comes to low pop cards of any kind the market is going to go where it wants to.

The 1978 Topps auctions from a month ago were chilling less then $100 and then began to heat up in the final hours and two had the final explosion at nearly $1,400. The third bidder was almost half of the price. Two SNIPERS at the end fighting for top bid.

One guys SNIPE worked, the others did not and the price was nearly double what the next inline bidder was willing to pay.

There are severall scenarios where they certainly can be helpfull. If you are bidding on common items, if you don't want to waste time following the auction, if you from the outset have a final price in mind and will not budge on it or you don't want other bidders knowing you are interested in a case like a hot registry set. There may be others I left off.

Either way the market for items will find it's clearing price and I sitll believe that you do no damage to yourself by showing your hand early becuase if an item is going to launch at the end your attempt at a winning bid is much higher then is what is posted on the screen.
