1979 OPC grading and rough cuts
I have a few really, really nice 1979 OPC cards. I have a Nolan Ryan, Dale Murphy, and a couple of commons. I am fairly experienced at grading. I have a loupe and pretty much know the difference between an 8 and a 9/10. (I don't think anybody knows the difference between a 9 and a 10). However, I am inexperienced when it comes to OPC and rough cuts.
This is what I am finding on these cards of mine. They are perfectly centered (except for the Ryan which is a hair off, but falls in the range of a 9 on centering). The rough cuts are present, but not extreme by any means. The rough cuts are only slight. However, under a loupe, the rough cut makes the corners look odd. What I mean by that is that under magnification, there is absolutely no wear. If you take the surface and extend it out all the way to the corner, the white surface makes a perfect point. But with the rough cut it makes it not look that way upon first glance. That's the only way I know how to describe it.
Can someone experienced with 70's OPC give me a little knowledge and advice? Thanks.

I wonder if commons are worth sending in at $4.50 if there is an excellent shot at a 10?

I subbed a Johnny Grubb #99 in April that looked 10ish to me. At the time it was a pop 1 in PSA 9 with no 10's. Got a 9 and couldn't give it away.

<< <i>Agreed, I busted a few boxes a couple of years ago and sent quite a few, no 10's at all and really not many 9's either. The stars that graded a 9 did pretty good, but as Bill said the commons were tough to move. >>
Well, out of the stack they go.
That is, unless you tell me that 10's bring big bucks.

The #1 set is a board member that posts from time to time.
If they have perfect centering I'd sub them but then again I'm a 70's OPC fan. Any players that have registry sets of their own I would also sub.
Don't except big money from common 10's NOW, but in the future I'd except a few more people to battle for low pop's.
