A post on the darkside: 500 Euro gold coin

I would rather have this than a 500 Euro paper note.

I'd rather have a $50 gold AGE than a $50 bill. What's your point? The gold coins trade based on their bullion value while the paper notes are worth their face value.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

I like the design. I was looking for the 100 euro (I think the french mint was selling it at face value).
There is a seller on eBay that sells them in the range of 170/180 usd but I asked my dad to find me one from Italy.
I thought it was cheaper...his dealer asked for 185...euro! image
I will miss the US bullion market when I eventually be back in Italy!

This is a circulating gold coin whose face value is close/almost the same as its melt value . That is my point. Your example will cost you a big loss if you spent your $50 gold coin.

  • Are these actually circulating? I can't believe it.

Do you really believe these coins actually circulate as money in commerce? These are like AGE's even though their face value is closer to their melt value.
