What do you think is the most attractive world coin?

I've seen lots of designs, but what do you think is the most attractive world coin design or series?

I'm looking at picking up some world coins, and currently I am a buyer of Hungarian coins.

So, post what you think is a great design!!

There's no one most attractive piece for me, but here are a few:

    * Gothic crowns of 1847 and 1853 (but neither of these come cheap)
    * The early gothic florins of similar design, up through around 1867
    * "Una and the Lion" 1839 proof 5 pound gold piece (very expensive)
    * Any of a number of "City View" Thalers.

    And the ugliest:
    * Churchill crowns
    * Just about any clad coin from Belgium
    * 1887-9 shillings with the teeny tiny jubilee head.

I have to say that I really like this post! This question is so much how I feel this forum was up until about a year ago before the lack of regulars stopped posting! I really look forward to seeing what every member has to say! I, myself, have to say that Liberia has a nice looking coin in the 1 and 2 cent piece.I really like the Burl(sp) walnut look of the inner fields.

Silver ducatons - 1 troy ounce silver - 43mm diameter - every province had their own design, and because the united Netherlands
were a self proclaimed republic (1576-1800) in the old days, a knight on horseback took over the place of usually reigning monarch.

obverse: new silver coin of the united states of the netherlands - province Zeeland - reverse: E Pluribus Unum
the Netherlands were the first country to recognize the united states of america as an independent country.

I really am fond of the City View designs. I don't have any in my collection so I cannot show an example but I have enjoyed seeing them posted on here. Lots of different versions available, too.

To say that's my favorite though...hard to say. For one I have not seen every coin issued. (who has?) but secondly my tastes change from day to day...even more than once in a day, if I see something I like better.

Altho I've never owned one, I gotta agree that the gothic crown has got to be among the most attractive. On the other hand, its really hard to beat papal baroque coins and medals (ca 1650-1725) to get your (or at least my) heart started...

That Plautius Plancus denarius is absolutely beautiful, and a very nice specimen as it is usually poorly struck and off-center.

Tough call. I would have to lean towards one of the many designs on german state or italian state crowns of the 17th and 18th century. Many of those pieces have very intricate designs that tell a story. In the running would have to be one of the city view talers, perhaps a mining taler, a papal state piastra, or maybe one of the sede vacante issued taler/piastra pieces. I would also highly rank the Weiner cathedral medals due to the intricate detail and beauty.

I've always thought that some of the Swiss Canton designs featuring dragons are very attractive. If money were no object, I'd collect those.

There are so many beautiful world coins. I favor aluminum and base metals but the
first two that jump to mind are silver; the Haitian 1973 25G and the South Africa (ZAR)
    Shilling. (19th century)

That is a beutiful coin but I prefer the 1973 version.

Haiti made some real nice coins. I suspect a lot of their more modern circulating
coinage will be extremely tough in unc. A lot of these just aren't seen.
