If anyone cares I took the time and did the math for you.

    1977-1993 Topps Run VCP Avg.$1960

Other 15 cards in Master Set VCP Avg. $157

    Total VCP Avg. $2117

  • If you go by the PSA pricing,it's prob. close to that, but then again when was the last time you seen a 77 PSA 10 Murphy go for only 425.00.
Also need to consider the 87 PSA 10 Murphy with a pop of only 3. & not to mention the other low pop cards.
Like I said this is an investment set. Am I evil for wanting to turn a small profit?

Judging by your icon -- I'm guessing you are simply evil and turning a profit is wholly disaggregated from your evilness.

BTW -- in most cases, people expect discounts when buying a run of something. And a bunch of other marquee player collections have not yielded much interest in auctions.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • There is nothing wrong with turning a profit on a sale. In fact, wish everyone did.

An evil-looking icon and poor use of grammar don't engender rampant buyer clamour at any price point. Dale Murphy has such a decent disposition. Such irony.

Well, I suppose that since this has been coined an "investment" set, more should pony up and get prepared to pay whatever is asked.
  • pile it on guys,I'll be laughing all the way to the bank SET SOLD 2800.00 !!!!!!!!!

Great job on the sale I guess someone had to have it.

Man that's like buying a new car and driving it off the lot
and losing 29% right from start and then price will keep
    dropping.

Wow you know what they say about a foul and his money.

James- I don't use VCP service, I just try to find data on closed ebay auctions, but I'll say this about the Murphy lot. For those who collect Murphy, and there are still dozens out there who pay outrageous prices for his high grade stuff, the original asking price was not out of line. Regardless of what VCP says, the 77 Topps gets $1000-$1500 frequently and several of the other psa 10's just never come to auction, specifically the 87 Topps that I've only seen once on Ebay in 10. I think the buyer paid a fair price.

Check the PSA POP. Report on 1987 Topps looks like someone with no grading skills
sent in a lot of 7's,8's and 9's think they are 10's here are the numbers tell me if you
think this card is rare our hard to find in a PSA 10 and is worth $280.

I bet you one person sent in all the PSA 7''s 8's and most of the 9's inflated numbers
    do to poor grading skills.

I think your VCP data on the 77, if correct, kind of proves my point. The only exception is the idiot who put a BIN on the card of $599 and left several hundred dollars on the table. Regarding the 87 Topps, the 1 auction you showed was the 1 that I was referencing. However, I strongly disagree with your assumption that 1 guy with lackluster grading eyes submitted a bunch of cards thinking they were 10. The 87 Topps Murphy in gem mint really is tough to find. I probably have 400 of that cards that I've mostly bought in lots over the last decade and I've only ever submitted 1 and it came back a 9. Whether they come out of sealed sets or from wax or whatever, that card is tough to find in gem mint. They all have multiple printing dots, excessive fuzziness in the image etc. etc. Finding a copy with 4 sharp corners and good centering is NOT the difficult part. Its the printing marks that you will drive you nuts. If you think otherwise, good luck with your hunting.
