1967 20C Doubled Die Coin from South Africa

Does anybody have any idea how valuable these coins are?

Duane Blake just wrote an article on one he recently purchased. Link
The mintage is of the coin is 58,000, which includes the DDO and the normal mint state strike.

  • Thanks Bob. The coin, BTW, has been graded as a MS66. Very nice to look at, and fun to find!

Edited: Great close up photos that you took of the coin!

Does anyone know if the .20 were included in the mints sets in 67? I collect foreign varieties but there doesn't seem to be a large market for minor varieties. I found some Swiss 1/2, and 1 Francs with doubling of the designer initials and stars and can't seem to find anyone who collects or sells them. It seems everyone wants major errors in foreign coins.
    Positive BST transactions: agentjim007, cohodk, CharlieC, Chrischampeon, DRG, 3 x delistamps, djdilliodon, gmherps13, jmski52, Meltdown, Mesquite, 2 x nibanny, themaster, 2 x segoja, Timbuk3, ve3rules, jom, Blackhawk, hchcoin, Relaxn, pitboss, blu62vette, Jfoot13, Jinx86, jfoot13,Ronb

I don't actually know, and did not contact the SA mint for this small article. Also, as far as foreign varieties go, what would be considered a major variety? Is there an available guide, or is the minor/major distinction simply 'known' by foreign variety collectors?

    Thanks,
