neat-o ancient from the sedwick auction (8)
I love the claws on the crab, you can see the metal flow (or maybe it's my imagination)

dont know what the hell it is, but it's an ancient and it's spectacular.
Akragas, Sicily, silver tetradrachm "crab," 470-420 BC. 17.0 grams. Standing sea-eagle left with lettering on obverse, reverse with crab, both elements very well detailed and bold, choice VF+, almost centered, beautiful specimen. Estimate: 1-1.5k

<< <i>I like that a lot, very nice pickup. >>
oh, I wish it was a pickup for me, it's up for auction in the upcoming Sedwick Treasure Hunt (#8) thing. I always enjoy looking through the catalogs even if I can't drop 1k on a coin anymore

I'm with you - the photography and artistic merit of many of these catalogues is amazing. I can't get over the fine detail on the crab on that particular piece - amazing die work on that piece considering the era.
