Wax stains on the back of cards

I have seen that nylons/dress socks can get wax stains off of the glossy front of cards, but what would work for a stain on the back of the card? I have a Rocky Bleier RC that got an 8ST from PSA and an 80/6 from SGC that I'd like to have a better grade on.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Good luck with that...I have tried all kinds of stuff with no luck on the back of cards. I hope someone posts with a solution.

IMO wax will not come off backs unless you damage the card.I had a wax stain on my 59 Robin Roberts on the back and still recieved a PSA 7.

many years ago, there used to be some kind of "juice" available in the hardware stores......slightly aroma-matic at the beginning because you have to do the whole card, and more then once, but the "smell' dissipates eventually, but thats just what i have heard......

Put your hand inside a dress sock or nylon with your pointer finger extended like your team is number 1 (make sure it is tight to your pointer finger), then rub like the dickens until that shiny wax on the back is dulled considerably or gone. It takes a while, but I have turned 2 vintage cards that were both 9 ST into straight 8.5s. Good luck.

Depending on how deep the wax has soaked in, you can have some success in removing it. I've managed to wipe away enough of the wax on a few cards to avoid the downgrade. I had a 1966 card that I managed to eliminate enough of the wax so that you could barely see a light sheen under optimal lighting conditions. It received a straight 9. If the cardboard stock itself is stained, then there's not much hope of improving it without being considered an alteration.

Bestine solvent & thinner...works on front and back(not as good on back as front).

I use 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads.
