I don't think the job is for me. Longacre has a bad back, and would have trouble with this requirement: "Load and unload hand trucks carrying gold, silver and platinum bars (bullion bars weigh between 30 and 100 pounds), coins, blanks, materials or packaged coins." Perhaps I could outsource that part of the job to one of my co-workers.

Here's the link. I frequent this site often. One day I am going to make the jump from private to government service unless we go bankrupt as a nation.

Well, Its kind of an interesting though...but in reality you end up with a low paying, high stress job in an environment where your every movement is photographed and supervised. I imagine they have a fairly high turnover......

Personally, Id rather take the job if it were offered at the Charlotte Mint in 1851

I think all the critics who think bullion items should be sold for less mark-up or at melt should take one of these internships.

This is a low end federal civil service position as a laborer. Although it is temporary not to exceed one year it is really the employers way of not keeping an employee they are not happy with. Most temporary civil service jobs are converted to permanent once the employer is satisfied with the employee. It is easy to get rid of a temporary employee and very difficult to get rid of a permanent employee. This is an excellent opportunity to get one's foot in the door with federal civil service. Once hired into the system the only limits for a good career in many fields are the employees experience and education.

I started my civil serice career as a laborer at 3.40 an hour and retired after 35 years as nuclear quality assurance specialist/inspector. Lots of opportunity once in the system. Getting into the system is the trick.

Some people have been caught and prosecuted, but I gotta believe for everyone one of those there are a few who have been quietly successful.

That would be sooooo cool as a "During College" job....or as a "Retirement Job-Instead of Wal-Mart Greeter"...etc. I just can't ever see myself taking the huge pay cut or living there.....but WOW...that would be a really cool experience for just about anyone I think.

west point in i think PA if i recall. PA isnt an expensive state to live in to begin with. I assume 14 to 16 an hr would be living kinda large out there. its not like NJ where things are out of control. especially near NYC. Just a thought before we say they dont pay well. if the avg person out there makes 8 to 9 then this is a good paying job

    West Point is in NY.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • With that salary range I'm surprised that you don't hear about more theft at the US Mint

I live in PA and if that job was within a 100 mile radius I would retire from my current job and work for Obama at the mint and let you taxpayers take care of me while making coins. A job that i would finally enjoy!!!! image
