Randy Moss traded to the Vikings!

ESPN Story

I am not liking this at all! image

They go from possible Super Bowl to one round of playoffs with this stupid trade. First Logan Mankins, now Moss -- yeah they are headcases, but the Krafts are fumbling the ball on these guys. Trading for the future is getting to be a tired old Patriots excuse -- the future is NOW!!

What's really stupid about this is that the Pats are already stoked with draft picks for next year from other trade deals. They didn't NEED this pick at all. In fact, they'll probably trade down again when the time comes.

I do hope the Pats get a deep threat in the next week and a half...got to have someone taking the role that Moss filled.

Yeah, Pats even sent a 7th round pick to the Vikings in addition to Moss.

The only plausible explanation is that he was a cancer in the clubhouse and the team wanted him gone -- which I somewhat find hard to believe given the recent supportive comments from Brady and others. However, it appears Minnesota had the Krafts by the gonads on this trade, otherwise I would think they should have received second and third round picks which they could parlay into a trade for Vincent Jackson from San Diego.

I have no doubt at all that Moss was a clubhouse cancer, especially considering his comments on it being his last year in New England and that he didn't feel like he was wanted there. Brady and the others would have to say supportive comments in case he didn't get traded. Otherwise what was a bad situation could have gotten much worse.

It seems like the Randy Moss merry go round has come full circle. I wonder how long it is before the Vikings trade Moss to the Raiders; and thereafter how long it will be before the Raiders trade Moss back to the Patriotsimage

When I heard of the trade I took it the Pats wanted him gone.

Patriot fans you still made out good you acquired him for a 4th round pick. He had 2 real good years and you are getting a 3rd round pick and only losing a 7th round pick. When the Raiders acquired him they gave up a 1rst round pick 7th overall, and a #1 pick in his third season, although Napolean Harris didn't help the Vikings much. After a couple of under achieving years with the Raiders the Raiders let him go for a 4th round pick.

I still think the trade sucks. They could have extended Moss for 2 more years -- even an old, happy Moss is better than 90% of the WRs in the league. And even if he sucked the last year, It would have been worth it to have a damn good shot at the Superbowl this year. Now the Jets will probably shut them down again later this year.

The only silver lining: Now the Vikings have a good shot a beating the Jets.

I actually liked the deal. The Moss/Welker show was played out - nobody could stop it the first year, but it definitely had diminishing returns towards the end of last year and this year. When teams figured it out at halftime last year (several times), we had no other tricks up our sleeve.

The defense is going to need the offense to stay on the field longer, and the new running game, the tough TE's, and Edelman and Tate all look above average.

I think YPG, time of possession, and points will go up. I really do.

Finally, a 3rd round pick for 3/4 of a season of Moss is actually quite good - they would have only got a 5th when he left in free agency (end of the 5th too). Pats will be fully reloaded by next year - having only missed the playoffs the 11 win, no Brady year (I feel solid about this year).

    GO PATS!
