How would you display or frame modern proof sets to hang on a wall?

I bought a bunch of modern British proof sets to display in my office. I'd like to hang them on the wall, and would appreciate suggestions from people who may have created similar displays.

Do I need to use a display case or will a picture frame do the job? Should the sets be mounted on wood, stiff cardboard, etc.? I'd like to mount the proof sets without permanently altering their cases and also without any unsightly wires or fasteners showing.

The photo represents the sort of look I want, although I might want to do up to 30 sets in a single frame/display.

I'd do the same thing with U.S. proof sets, but think some poorly paid member of the cleaning staff might be tempted to steal them.

If it were me and I was willing to spend a little more money...

I would design, or have someone else design one large coin board with a solid black background (too many colored holders is distracting).
I would carefully remove the coins from each set, and add the coins from each date-set to run across the board horizontally.
A nice wood frame and glass cover would make a nice presentation.

I don't know how practical this idea is to you, but it's an idea!

Just my paranoid opinion, but unless you're talking 'home office', I wouldn't publicly advertise that I collected coins.

It's just modern crap of low value.
  • A frame big enough for a sports jersey would accomodate all those sets. I've also seen shadow box displays that are about 2 inches deep and something like that would work. You might be able to buy something off the shelf at Aaron's Brothers or Michael's or another store that stocks a lot of frames. Otherwise those shops or any other shop that does custom framing will be able to help you.

Do you care if the reverse side can be viewed? Double sided glass or acrylic would likely be more money, and less sturdy as well.

If a person wants to try it on the cheap, perhaps look in the second hand shops for a framed print on sale that might have a frame that might work.

Be sure to have a nice sign explaining how to swipe the sets without damaging the wall.
