What MLB teams clinched the pennant/division/wild card the fastest?

EstilEstil Posts: 7,058 ✭✭✭✭
Remember that topic I made a few months ago regarding the greatest pennant races in MLB history? Well, this time I'm curious about just the opposite. During each of these three time periods, what team(s) have clinched these the earliest (you can go by calendar day or fewest number of games into the season):

* League Championship or Pennant (pre-1969)
* Division Championship (1969-93)
* Division or Wild Card title (1994-present)

Just like I was so insistent on not including anything after 1993 in my greatest pennant races topic, I wanted to be sure to split this up into those three time periods to make fair comparisons.

    In 1981 4 teams made it when the season was broken into 2 halves. That could be construed

    as the fastest. (for division championship at least) or half of a division anyway.

    I don't think that really counts.

  • The 1975 Reds won 108 games and won the divison by 20 games over the Dodgers. They clinched the division title on September 7th.

    Perhaps the 1927 Yankees (110 wins) or 1954 Indians (111 wins) or 1906 Cubs (116 wins) clinched the fastest in the pre-1969 era?

    The 41 Yankees clinched on September 4th. I do not know if that was the earliest. The 83 WSox clinched early.
