<< <i>That would be a way for Collectors Universe to make money. >>

Collector's Universe only slabbed them at their going dealer rates. A more accurate statement would be it was a "dealers" method for making money off of selling momento's for the election of the first black President of the United States. Which, IMO, was a memorable occasion.

Others do not agree but then they're not the one's making money off of me. While I do not have this one I do have the Silver Eagle and the Illinois State Quarter in the same holder. The only upside is that the coin doesn't have a cheesy sticker as many of the coin sets being sold did but instead has the slab with the special label.

A market definitely existed (like it or not) and some coin dealers in conjunction with Collectors Universe made the best of the opportunity.

Both parties wanted and did make money. Neither party is more responsible than the other.

And yes, perhaps a decent market existed, but that doesn't change my opinion that something like this is an utter piece of crap. The least that could be done is pick a coin that was struck sometime during his presidency.

It wasn't a matter of me not liking it or not wanting to buy it. As someone out of the loop, I wanted to learn the scoop.

    Better?

    Or this one?

As stated, no additonal numismatic value, just a slab with a label.

The Illinois one is sensible. I don't understand what Barack Obama has to do with George Washington.

Like stated earlier in the post, first President, first African American President. Two firsts, one slab.

George Washington was the first President and the way things are going Barack Obama will likely be the last.

Just joking. I'm quick to dislike this but I like fringe pieces and this certainly qualifies as that. It needs to have an autograph or something on it and then it would peak my interest. As it is it's a dollar wrapped in plastic.
