Documenting your cards for insurance purposes.

For anyone who insures their cards, what is your method for documentation?

I keep all invoices from the purchase. I also register all PSA cards on their site in my inventory. Finally, I try to photograph all cards or items valued over $100. It takes time but it is pretty much fool proof
  • for high end stuff, I make photocopies of all receipts and keep them off-site from my home. that way, if my house ever burned to the ground, I would have a 2nd set of paperwork. Also, even when I buy on ebay and/or through paypal, you get a receipt and proof of payment. so I keep these receipts and documents off site too. also, I photograph everything and keep backups off site.

  • I have all my cards entered into VCP my collections, this makes it simple to print a full inventory with current prices and what I paid for them.
  • I carry AllState homeowner's insurance and my agent has told me that I cannot "schedule" my cards for insurance purposes. Anyone have similar issues?

Have you used the folks who advertise collectible insurance?

I was told by my agent (State Farm) that they could do a policy for me; however, it would be a concrete policy for XX cards that I paid XX for. I would need to supply documentation of purchase/ownership, and the policy would only cover those cards at those values against fire, theft, etc. Since I'm constantly swapping cards in and out of my collection, I thought the policy would do me no good.

Theft is my primary concern. We have had our house robbed once, my car broken into twice, and our boys motorcycles stolen when we forgot to close the garage door one night! All this and to think we live on the "right" side of town.

I think my agent just sucks.image
