Re-holdering a Heritage auction coin

I just won a coin today @ Heritage auctions. My question is the holder looks a little worse for wear. Can I request and will Heritage oblige me and send it in to be re-holdered? I'm even willing to pay for the fee involved. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Tony.

I assume the coin is in a PCGS holder and you are not a PCGS member? If so, there is no harm in asking Heritage or you could contact any PCGS dealer and they could send it in for you.

The coin is in a holder from ATS.

I don't know what Heritage will say, but I would certainly understand if they opt to deliver your coin to you and let you handle the reholdering.

I'd go ahead and ask Heritage and if they don't do it, contact a dealer from ATS.

ANA Members can submit directly ATS too.

Let me know if you find out anything i won a coin today too and its in another holder but i want it in a pcgs holder, i know for the crossover if the grade doesn;t meet there standards in can drop a grade or two but if you check the box and it doesn;t pass they just send it back in orignal holder right?

I had some R.8's from NGC be sent in to PCGS by Heritage. I am a legacy client though and I am not sure if that makes any difference or not, but Chris Dykstra was/is my contact and he said it would not be a problem.

Here's the thing that I don't understand. If you go to today's auction and look up lot 9447, take a look at the reverse picture of the slab. It looks as if the hologram sticker has been scraped. How is this possible? I thought the stickers were inside the slab, so then how does the scrapes occur? Surely they didn't come that way from NGC originally. Anyone have a clue on how this stuff happens?

Crossovers default to the current grade on the slab, but I'd go ahead and fill in the current grade under "Minimum Grade".

Those holograms get scuffed up all the time. They are usually on the outside of the slab. I can't find your auction but unless the hologram is nearly gone, I don't worry about it.

many of those holograms are on the outside of the holder, and dealers put their pricing stickers/systems over them on the reverse. I've had a couple holders get ruined when removing the stickers...it's very aggravating. Ever since, I've used goo gone to take the stickers off and haven't had a problem.

When lots are paid for the title of ownership transfers from the consignor to the buyer. Therefore once the lot is paid for, whatever happens to the lot afterwards is solely the responsibility of the new owner. The auction company isn't obligated to do anything to the lot other than ship it to the buyer in the current as is condition.

Any PCGS authorized dealer or Collectors Club member can submit that coin for a reholder service. Reholders cost $10 per coin and turnaround is in a couple of weeks.

I would just take the slab to the next coin show where NGC is set up and just drop it off for reslabbing. If you get there early, they may have it reslabbed before you leave and save you the expense of shipping. I hate damaged and abused slabs.

It's an NGC slab. Can a non-member get a coin in a damaged slab reholdered or does he need to go through a member/authorized dealer?

I didn't realize we had another '32-D Washington here.

Even though the scuffed hologram is "normal" and doesn't look that bad to me, if it bothers you then send it to NGC for re-holder.

Any ANA member can submit to NGC and there are NGC authorized dealers available to submit for you. I'd just have Heritage send you the coin and get it done on your end.
