Troy Polomalu Help Needed

My nephew's favorite football player is Polomalu. I don't follow football at all, but I hear he's good (might even make the hall of fame).

He wants a Polomalu jersey for christmas, no problem.

I'm think about getting him a Rookie card also graded a PSA 9 or PSA 10. I need some help with what year he was a rookie and how much a PSA 9 or 10 would cost. Mostly looking for regular issue cards, not limited edition, autgraphed or insert.

One last thing I'm thinking about is getting him a autographed card. How much does one of his more common Certified autograph cards or a PSA/DNA Slab usually sell for? Not a Rookie, but any other year.

Looking to buy in Early December so hopefully the market gets fludded and price comes down.

A big thank you to all who can help on this one.

Dave

  • Polomalu is the Steeler with the long dreadlock like natty hair and is in like 4-5 television commericals.

Perhaps the best defensive player in the NFL.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • Any idea when his rookie year is or the value of his cards graded?

those are some funny commercials. He seems like a pretty cool guy

I think this rookie year was 2003

    check Ebay for pricing
  • It might be a little bit tough to find but I don't think they sell for too much since defensive player's cards aren't in as high of demand.

Polomalu is an exception. His low end base RCs usually go for around $10. I guess because of the tv commericals and recent Super Bowl appearances.

2003 SP Authentic is his best RC, it's numbered(think to 2200) which isn't too low and not autographed, and probably a nice raw copy would be $15-20.

Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason.
Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason.

  • Morning,
My son's favorite player is Polamalu as well. I bought a Jersey from somebody on these boards for him for christmas last year. Was a good deal, I think like $50-$60 or so. Does anybody know who I'm talking about?

a simple ebay search of 'polamalu rc' or 'polamalu psa' or 'polamalu psa rc' will bring this info up in mere seconds.

I would recommend the Playoff Contenders Auto RC, but it's a $150 card, and doesn't pop up often.

Drew, what makes that his best?
I'd rather have a Contenders or R&S RC Auto, myself.

  • I prefer the Contenders in general. I have not seen all the Polomalu cards and compared them...and I am not a modern RC expert, however...

The SP's have kinda sucked the last few years, which has hurt the brand in the long run. The base RC's are just that....very base. (No more SP...not sure what that means in long term value.)

R&S is alright, but the first few years of it sucked and it pretty much looks like every Pani card now. Its like, every card has to have boxes, lines, triangles or some shape in a modern geometric pattern that can only be called R&S.

Contenders pretty much looks like every Playoff card, but it has a longer run, and we no longer get a dozen like Playoff sets. The earlier (auto) years Contenders wins hands down.

This is his best non-auto rookie and I think his best looking RC in general. Cool design on the 03 SPA.

That's a lot more than I'm looking to spend. I'm mostly just looking for a graded rookie with a more reasonable price tag.

If anyone has one of his base rookie Cards for sale let me know. Mostly looking for a PSA 9 or 10.

because he asked for a non-auto version, and I think the Contenders design is lame
