Lyman Bostock died 32 years ago today.

September 23, 1978.

Kind of a depressing topic, I know. Still, we shouldn't forget about him and what could have been.

How tuff is his auto? I've seen some featured on the front page of auction catalogs, so I imagine they don't come cheap.
Kiss me once, shame on you.
    Kiss me twice.....let's party.

It's not super tough, unless you are specifically looking to get his autograph on a 1978 Topps card. And even that isn't as "tough" as other signed baseball cards. I'm just guessing here -- but I imagine that there are a few dozen signed '78 Bostock cards... Certainly not plentiful, but it's not less than ten, either.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • I have his auto on a team signed Angels ball from the early 70's with Nolan Ryan and I saw a similar one on ebay for $350.00 for months 9unsold),I will be selling mine soon as I'm leaving the hobby after 30 years.

I'm no math whiz, but isn't that 32 years ago today?

Here are my '78 autos. I do not know the pops of these (I'd sure appreciate knowing) but the Topps is one of 4 or 5 I've seen over the last 5-7 years. This SSPC is the only one I've ever seen.

I have no idea who you are but you are a valuable member of this community. I am truly saddened to see you go.
  • I met his father at a Negro League reunion in the 90's and he was really nice. I sent him a card of Bostock later on and got a nice note from him.
  • Happy to contribute and will be hanging around for quite a while.image

I remember being at Shea Stadium that Sunday (day after) and hearing the news when they asked for a moment of silence.........

Wow, the guy who shot him only spent 21 months in custody. His first trial resulted in a hung jury, and in his second trial he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Within seven months, he was found to be no longer insane, and he was released. That's messed up.

Wow, what a tragic story. I never even had heard of it and to think the guy who pulled the trigger barely spent anytime in jail.

Time really does fly. I was just 10 years old, but I still remember how sad it was when I watched the terrible news on tv with my family.

I was still living in So Cal at the time. Remember it very clearly. Sad.
