Pack Rip from BBCE

So...every day at work around 2-2:30 i get the urge to buy some packs from bbce...i just have a hard time decided what to get since i like all sports. So i need some advice, with about 100 bucks to spend, what would you buy for the chance at a hit and some solid grades. I fully understand that pack ripping doesnt have a positive ROI, but it sure is FUN! I was thinking some 84 topps football, maybe some late 70s hockey or a pack of 75 topps baseball...im not particular, and i have no problem cracking a psa graded pack.

Your thoughts please!

You can buy about three packs of 1975 Topps Minis. Those are really fun, but you might find two or three cards that aren't OC.

The 1989 OPC and Topps Hockey boxes have always been a really good price and are a blast to open up.

    My suggestion

    1981 Topps baseball Grocery Packs, buy 5 @ 6$ a piece = 30$

    1983 OPC baseball packs, buy 10 @ 2$ a piece = 20$

    1984 OPC baseball packs, buy 10 @ 1$ a piece = 10$

    1980/81 Topps Basketball, 1 pack at 32$ = 32$

With shipping that comes to right near one Franklin.

The big hit would be a Magic/Bird rookie W/ Dr. J. The 83 OPC could yield a Gywnn or Sandberg rookie. The 84 OPC could yield a Mattingly or Strawberry rookie. The 81 Topps has no major rookies except Raines, however it has a lot of low pop 10s.

A 1981 Topps Dale Murphy would fetch around 200 or more on the Bay. I really don't know what a Rose, Ryan, or Schmidt would fetch, but I would say probably more than Murphy.

You could always act like the first year Tampa Bay Bucs; when in doubt back up and punt.

I saw a 1981 Topps #180 Pete Rose PSA 10 card go for a couple of grand a couple of years ago.

i would go with the following. its a little over 100 but in the ball park. The worst value is 1998 sp football. packs are like 25 bucks. there are i think 4 cards in a pack and about 1 manning in a case..

    1 pack of 1980 basketball
    2 packs of 1984 and 86 football
    1 pack of 81 football.
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here
  • I like to hedge myself whenever I buy something from BBCE, worth $80 or $150. I can't just spend it on one box, or 3 packs, with only 1 good card inside (like 1980 topps, with the ricky henderson rookie).

I like to spread it out. So...

    1982 topps football cellos
    1984 topps football pack
1977/78 topps basketball (those are fun to open). Got a very sharp maravich and david thompson in the last 2 packs I bought about a month ago. A good value at $17 each.
1988 fleer basketball packs (although I've given up on them lately. I havent pulled a jordan since I was a kid from that year. I've gone through 10 or 15 of those packs from bbce. I've only pulled rodmans, stocktons, malones, jordan sticker.

1985 donruss was a good box I bought lately. Pulled clemens and 2 pucketts.

Late 70's basketball is a good value. 77/78-79/80. You're bound to pull jabbars, waltons, ervings. I window shop a lot on that site. I'm waiting for 87 topps football (rack). Which is a good value. 1993/94 topps finest basketball box. I'm thinking about other mid 90's basketball boxes.
