Anyone ever have any luck with Heritage "Make offer to owner" feature?

Just tried this...but dont personally hold much stock in this.

Anyone ever get "lucky" with this?

I did it once and got the coin because I knew the history and what the previous owner paid for it. In essence I gave them a 10% markup to sell the coin rather than the 20-30% they had been looking for. I also think Heritage may have owned the coin in question or at least someone who worked very closely with them.

I hold ZERO stock in that feature. I'm also 0-fer every time I've tried.

I am 1 for 2 using the feature.

The first time I used the "make offer" I got the coin. The second coin that I went after the owner never replied. I even tried it a second time with a higher offer and still never heard anything back from the owner. I was offering way to much money the second time around and I guess I should fill fortunate that they refused.

I have a couple of more coins tracked that I am going to try as soon as this credit card period is over.

This is interesting, Tommydg. I looked into this, and we did send rejections on both of your offers -- one as an autoreject after three days and one as an owner rejection the day after you made your offer. With your comment and etexmike's comments, I wonder whether the offer rejected notices are winding up in a spam folder somewhere?

I may have made offers on over 20 items with none ever being accepted, but I do recall always getting a rejection email within 72 hours.

I wish they would lower it to less then $400 items as there's some exonumia that sold for less I'd like to place offers on.

I had contemplated " going nuclear" instead of the $4450 minimum ,
......and then when the owner responds to say "ok now that I got your attention let's negotiate" but as I understand the system an offer is binding and a nuclear offer cannot be negotiated to a real world selling price.

I recently received two offers, but let them expire without responding. I suppose that I should 'opt out' via Heritage's website, so that I don't get offers in the future, since I am not interested in selling at this time.
I think that a BIG part of the non-responses is due to the same situation, since Heritage took it upon themselves to place the 'accepting offers' tag on every coin, and set the initial offer price as well. Probably most collectors are not interested in moving the pieces, but the 'make an offer' tag appears on the coin anyway. However, a nuclear offer would surely grab my attention - maybe I should place values on the coins that are right on the edge of ridiculous.
As an aside to Heritage, I think that a more flexible system of back & forth between parties would encourage more responses, and a little more $$ in the coffers!

I tried it a few times with no luck so I pretty much gave up on it. I figure so many dealers buy coins on Heritage that alot of the coins have been sold and resold several times since being on Heritage.

If I wanted the coin when it was up for auction, I would have bid my max. Why would I now want to pay at least 110% of my max?

After every auction I check for what I wouldn't buy except for price. I've maybe bought 7 coins for 20K over the last 2 years.

My assumption is that most folks are not interested in selling the coin, no longer own the coin, are not interested in hearing from me, etc., since that's how I feel. Therefore, I have never entertained the serious notion of making an offer.
