Chew off a little bite at a time......

We all, on this board, can probably agree on one thing: Counterfeits do not help
the hobby. I turn in to Ebay as many as I can find on almost a daily basis. Slowly,
things do change. Recently I've been turning in Replica and Copy coins for being
in the wrong categories (not in the replica/reproduction category).
Now I've decided that that tactic is working somewhat and now time for a new
tactic. So, along those lines I write to Ebay this about a Chinese seller of fakes:

Message: I applaud Ebay for the continuing efforts in protecting the
coin hobby here in the USA. Copy coins are a huge problem and slowly
they are getting over into the category that is appropriate.
This brings me to pointing out that more can be done and I'll quote from
the Hobby and Protection act as revised on January 1st, 1998. Copy must
be on the coin as we all know. Not the word replica but COPY in
specific dimensions. The law is there for a purpose. So that the
copiers cannot deceive the public. Here is the EXACT wording from the
code: "The minimum total horizontal dimension of the word "COPY" shall
be six millimeters (6.0 mm) or not less than one-half of the diameter of
the reproduction."
Now as you can see there are few, if any, that meet the requirements of
US law.
So, I propose that Ebay tighten up a bit more and start nuking any
sellers that do not comply with the law! This seller is one of the
offenders. Oh, he has copy but it is not large enough and not in the
right font. Clearly a violation of Ebay rules and US law.
Please pass this concern on to your supervisors. It needs to go up the
chain of command from within.

Perhaps, just perhaps, those of us selling on ebay can slowly get things done!
Anyone that wants to plagiarize me can do so! No problem with me! If we
quote the law perhaps they will listen and act.

Perhaps you are correct. However, this is the first time that they have forwarded anything up
the chain. I can hope!
