Auction and Dealer Sites

It's been bugging me for a long time why the sports card world's auction houses and dealer websites are of such poor quality (not all). So many look stuck in the geocities days which make it a pain to buy and search. It seems to make good business sense to me to look professional in as many ways as possible, and that they could be losing clients based on shotty web work. I'm sure Gladwell or some other new yorker magazine type guy has had an article connecting site layout and sales. It seems that for very small investments these card sites could improve sales by making a better buying "experience"...
