I have an acid test kit that takes a little practice to know what you are doing

  • I got my most recent supplies from stuller.com. Great company. You will need various test acids, rubbing stones, and some practice. When you get your stuff, take some items of known karatage and see how they scrape and react to the acid. You will get to the point where you can just palm an item and look at it closely and correctly identify 90% of them without even testing.

An acid test kit, scale, and a magnet. You can order a test kit from just about anywhere. Wizard Supply has them with the different Carat acids. Usually you can't tell where you tested the item, but if it's scrap, it doesn't matter anyway. Practice with it first and you'll become effiecient with it.
