"Goldline employs several conservative pundits to act as shills for its’ precious metal business, including Glenn Beck, Mike Huckabee, Laura Ingraham, and Fred Thompson. By drumming up public fears during financially uncertain times, conservative pundits are able to drive a false narrative. Glenn Beck for example has dedicated entire segments of his program to explaining why the U.S. money supply is destined for hyperinflation with Barack Obama as president. He will often promote the purchase of gold as the only safe investment alternative for consumers who want to safeguard their livelihoods. When the show cuts to commercial break, viewers are treated to an advertisement from Goldline."

The only problem is that those "shills" are right as far as gold is concerned. And they probably have substantial gold holdings unlike most other types of shills.

I can't wait for the results of the "investigation." They will undoubtedly find that gold has been an excellent hedge against the dollar for the past decade. Why aren't they investigating the shills that push stocks as there are thousands of those types? Those have fallen 80% against gold over the past 10 yrs.

Why don't they get jewelers and clothes retailers to discuss their dishonest business practices? After all, they work on on 300-800% markup, making Goldline look like a Saint. Imagine if jewelers told their customers than the resale of the item they are buying is about 20-30% of the purchase price. Why not a fair markup on jewelry as it's a far bigger problem than the gold trade.

    Wax on.....Weiner off. Aye Danielson!

What's really something is it takes a lowlife from NY to investigate a California company which rips people off. WHERE are the police in California on this?

  • Are these donks seriously going to make the case that talk show hosts control the world gold market? image

    An excerpt:

"Rep. Weiner, who sits on the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection is proposing legislation that would force Goldline and companies like it to fully disclose their dishonest business practices. Under Rep. Weiner’s bill, companies like Goldline would be required to disclose the reasonable resale value of items being sold and would no longer be able to hide behind false promises of profitability."

Making a simple substitution, here is the news release I can't wait to see:

"Rep. Weiner, who sits on the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection is proposing legislation that would force Goldman Sachs and companies like it (JPMorgan) to fully disclose their dishonest business practices. Under Rep. Weiner’s bill, companies like Goldman Sachs (and JPMorgan) would be required to disclose the reasonable resale value of items being sold and would no longer be able to hide behind false promises of profitability."

    What about this one:

"Rep. Weiner, who sits on the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection is proposing legislation that would force the US Govt/Treasury to fully disclose their dishonest business practices. Under Rep. Weiner’s bill, the US Treasury would be required to disclose the reasonable resale value of items being sold (such as Mortgage Backed Securities and loans held by F&F in general) and would no longer be able to hide behind false promises of profitability."

Maybe Weiner should look at his own bankrupt NY state and their shoddy business practices rather than worrying about someone else's state. NY is in top 5 states with the worst finances. Deal with your own house first Rep. Weiner.

" Mr. Weiner might also consider calling John Paulson and George Soros, who have also reportedly been buying gold lately, though Mr. Soros was also quoted as calling it a bubble. But Mr. Paulson saw the housing bubble coming so he might be right about the inflation risks, and Mr. Soros is a big funder of left-wing causes, so neither of them would fit with the objective of the hearing.

Anyway, we are looking forward to the hearing, which should be quite a show

Gold is unfair. Women and minorities are effected the most. Perhaps we should expect a call for Federal price controls and/or a windfall profits tax. image

These two clowns IMO don't intend to investigate gold. Their "so-called" investigation looks more like an attack on the conservative pundits - gold is just the handy excuse.

  • gold doesnt back are money, so they have done what ever they want with it .

Are they investigating gold, or the people that sell gold????

I think they already have the results of the investigation before it even starts, that way they can dictate the solution regardless of the facts.

that kind of investigation will be good for gold
