I'd like to share something - shrink wrapping - to preserve items

I got this technique from a hobby friend from another board - his method is really cool IMO.
One can use it for just about anything...
It's a good way to preserve beat up boxes - Topps, Wheaties...etc.
The first thing I preserved was a 68T box:
1. Preshrink:

2. Before shrink wrapping - I fortified the box with poster board - otherwise the shrink wrap might crush the box:

3. The box shrink wrapped - this box wasn't a beater - but if ya got a beater, it does a great job of making it look better!

Next, I picked up this Mantle Pencil set - the cardboard is bent and could get worse with handling - so decided to see what it would look like with a piece of poster backing and shrinkwrap:
1. item before shrink wrap:

2. after shrink wrapping:

I'd like to work on the technique to try and keep the seams on the back of the item - I tried but couldn't do it.
Obviously, this is what BBCEx uses to seal their wax and vending. Would be a good way for anyone to seal up their wax and stuff. I'm not sure how much I like this for other items like pins e.g. - we'll see.
I bought a shrink wrap sealer and heat gun along with 100 small bags for 54.95 - and it works pretty darn good.

What do you guys think?

Using too much heat can do that.

<< <i>Good Idea but just make sure you don't bend your item.

True Steve - but the shrink materal is very volitile - so ya have to brush over it lightly with the gun - but good point.
Thanx Steve.
Took a few times for me to get it right.
I was managing a Kay Bee toy store and sometimes we had to clean up some packages.

I like the idea and it seems to look good. And I'd be less worried about people handling certain items.

And ya can always remove the shrink wrap in seconds and redo it later.
Thanx Ice!
Nifty !
<< <i>Just be careful. I wanted to preserve my wife and shrink wrapped her head. My trial starts in two weeks... >>
OMG ... that WAS you who did this! LMFAO

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< <i>I think it's great for the boxes and the like, but set those pencils free! >>
Can't argue with ya - I don't love it.
I was trying to see what certain items would look like.
Here's a better attempt - tho I agree - some stuff are better left unsealed.
One thing to be concerned about is the PVC content in the plastic wrap. Is it acid free? Something to think about. While it won't affect the item for the short term, long term storage might be a different matter.
For the pencil on card item, I would go with a poster board backing larger than the item. Its better for the corners and will protect the item much more.
