Advice for a PM gift?

WeissWeiss Posts: 9,941 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm (hopefully) selling a property on Wednesday. This has been a 7 year long journey, and the agent who helped me with the purchase (and has helped me with a dozen buys and sells since) is representing me at the close, too.

He's a PM fan, we talk metals often. He doesn't have much physical. So I'd like to give him something kinda nice.

My dealer has slabbed saints and libs, a dozen MS62ish NGC slabbed $10 libs, an unc 2006 buffalo in the mint cello.

Thoughts? My dealer will pull stuff out of his top secret stash for me, so almost anything within reason is possible. What would you look/vote for?

personally, i'd look at something i already owned that was worth $$$$ on today's market that i bought at $$$. the agent would like it just as much and isn't that the nice part about PM's, right now?image

Sounds like you can't go wrong with whatever you choose since he's a PM fan.
Still, nothing says THANK YOU like a St. Gaudens. Maybe something in an old rattler holder would make it a bit xtra special.

    Congrats again on the sale!

This would be my answer also. Keep the cost down amap while still giving an awesome gift.

Everyone has slightly different preferences, but I would opt for a coin that isn't in plastic - nothing says "gold" like holding a gold coin in your own hands.

How much are you looking to spend? A classic Saint or a gold Buffalo would be a great gift.

I had a debt of gratitude once that I settled for a $5 indian, raw. That wide eyed wonder at the piece is guaranteed.

Thanks, guys. Big range, but half to ounce of gold value (maybe $600 to $1300?). Since he's a bit of a physical novice, anything should appeal.

I'd thought about something from my stash but dismissed it. Maybe I'll reconsider. Any other ideas?

    $10 Injun would be cool.

And ditto on an older purchase piece that you already have.

I'd give him something you purchased 7 years ago when gold was cheap and then replace it at current prices so when you do sell you'll have a higher cost basis....JMO
  • You can't go wrong with all the suggestions here above.
I would go with a set of 2010 1/10 world modern bullions: AGE, Krug, Philha, Panda and Maple.
Maybe in airtites and in a nice display box.

    Just my 2c.

    What is a "$5 saint"?

I don't collect PMs beyond ASE (all I can afford), I just assumed since there are $5 indians, there were $5 saints.

    there were $5 saints.

No there were $5 Libs.....The Indians ($5,$10, and 2 1/2 dollars coins) are used to complete the Saint side of a gold set.

If I were in your shoes I'd go with a 1oz gold Buffalo or something from my inventory.

    So if you're interested...

I went through my stash (digitally, at least) and didn't think anything was right.

Went to my dealer and he offered me a huge assortment of pieces. MS $10 and $20 pieces, modern stuff, first wives (nice presentation pieces), etc.

Finally narrowed it down to a...

2004 PCGS MS69 half eagle. Hefty but not huge, PCGS, slabbed. My dealer threw in a nice presentation box.
