Questions for any Sportlots sellers

Do you sell via auction or fixed price? It looks like the auciotns have great rates but not too much traffic.

Any suggestions on pricing strategy?

Are the buyers on Sportlots less troublesome than eBay buyers sometimes are?

Any other suggestions for someone considering selling 3 or 4 thousand '67 through '73 commons?

Thanks for looking and many thanks for any opinions and expertise shared.

Question #1 - I sell both. For commons and lower value star cards, you cant beat the store listings, no listing fee, although your fee can be pretty steep if you dont sell a lot, but just figure that into your asking price. With no listing fees you have nothing to lose. On auctions, do NOT sell expensive, high demand cards, you will not get top price, however, in many cases, because, there is also less competition, you can actually get MORE for your cards since you have many buyers for the same card. (Example: I sold a low grade 1962 Tom Tresh for $7.75 on SL last week, there were 7 different BINS on ebay for the same card for under $5.00) Plus the 15 cent fee/no FVF is also more palatable.

Question #2 - Price what you can live with. Most commons and minor stars are virtually unsellable anyway, so anything you get can be a bonus. On better cards you put in your store, list what you want to get out of them. Price the more difficult inserts between half and full book, they will get sold. (Check QTY to see if you have competition)

Question #3 - MUCH LESS TROUBLESOME. They are a little more inexperience on the feedback thing, so they will tend to leave a neut here and there, but on SL you can virtually ignore your FB as there is no games with it like on ebay.

As for your 67-73 cards. Sell any minor stars via auction. For the rest, sell them in 25 card lots, you would be surprised at what you can get via auction. Of course, if theyre high grade, send them to get graded.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • So is there a market for early 80's cards? like 83-85 Fleer, Topps, and Donruss?

Even though ive never heard of the site, does it get good amounts of traffic?

It doesnt get great traffic, but if you have a bunch of newer commons or older commons (pre 1986), then you can sell a little if you have the time to mess with it. Some people would rather pay you 18 cents for a dozen commons to finish their set than to get them for 5 cents at a show or flea market.
