E-Bay bizarre transaction---my worst fear

so i win this auction ebay-- and a few days go by and i receive a torn envelope in the mail--looks as though it got caught in a machine? or something--don't think much about it except you can see the newspaper wrapping---its a fairly big hole and i wonder what the mail woman must have thought---i come inside and open it (those tough semi plastic oversized 6x9 gummy yellow envelopes that wal-mart usually has)--finally just cut the hole bigger with a pair of scissors to get it open--unwrap the thick newspaper from around it(gee--feels kinda flimsy for a graded card)--NOTHING--all i did was unfold a 12 page GreenBayPress-Gazette--not that much fun to read actually--so i think of the possibilities
1-Enemy's in town sneaking on my porch and ransacking the mail--not really any here
2-postal worker at facility that seller dropped it off at and knows sellers mailings
3-seller hoax who pre paid and sealed it--then tore hole to get card out

in other words not much to even consider--anybody got any ideas or suggestions?--this is just crazy--i dont have but $13 or so invested so it aint the money, just the ? factor going forward--i spend around $1000 per month off ebay and now its gonna be close to zero until something comes to light---a real puzzler

You can file an Item Not Received dispute/claim
    at PayPal/EBAY.

If the seller had Delivery Confirmation, you will
lose. If not, you will win.

  • Has happened to me twice before. Last time was a card sent from a respected and trusted forum member here. Rare occassion but not much you can do about it.

Too bad that a buyer is a CRIMINAL if he claims he/she did not receive the card. Shame on you "sivotco1".

(not my opinion--just the jaded opinion of a well-known eBay master).image
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • i could do a claim but its just $13.00, not even going to contact the seller--gonna talk to the girl that delivers my mail monday and see if she remembers it--she hit my dog a couple of months ago and we've become casual friends but dont know her last name so cant call her--not sure how to take akbars response--

Akbar was talking to someone else.

IMO you should tell the sender simply because he packaged it poorly.

If it's not the money then simply move on.

If you would like your money back, after you hear from the seller and he does nothing but

tell you to pound sand, file like Storm mentioned, if he is professional and offers a refund make sure

it's sent within the 45 days that PP allows.

You can tell if he had DC by looking at the envelope.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • I had something similar happen earlier this week. I came home to get two envelopes. One was in the dreaded "bodybag" with the cards missing from a 50/50. Another was from a trade with what looked like the cards ripped out and the letter in tact. It could be the "machine" or it could be some sticky fingers at the USPS.
  • Steve Young Jersey Card vs. Postal Sorting Machine

You can actually see the teeth of the sorter, spaced evenly down the side of the card.

I have had the worst luck with this card. My brothers dog chewed on two with multi-color swatches.

Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

I would ask for a refund, if no refund, then claim with Paypal, if no refund, then chargeback with credit card.

Seller has good FB. He will probably refund with no problem. USPS machine probably ate envelope and card dropped on floor of mail room and some nice postal worker in Madison Wisconsin now has a nice PSA graded card
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
