Wrapping up my 71 baseball set here in Iraq

Hello all,

As it is now a day of reflection here on 9/11 serving in our armed forces here at COB Adder in southern Iraq and getting ready to come home on R & R in just 3 days it has been fun on my down time to continue putting together my 1971 PSA graded baseball set. I have about 22 more cards to aquire and a few upgrades before I retire it out and start my 71 coin set. If anyone out there has a spare # 390 Beckert, 434 Sutherland, 559 A.L. Rookie, 630 Clemente ( yeah right) 693 Pena, 649 Lyle, 731 Qualls, and 750 Mclain please drop me a email at kenneth.walker8@iraq.centcom.mil

Thanks alot and spend a minute reading about our very own Army Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta who will recieve our nations highest honor.......The Congressional Medal of Honor and is alive to recieve it!!

  • Best of luck with your set! I don't have any '71s to help you out. Sorry!

Is your avatar the 10th Army insignia? I'm pretty sure that was what my Dad was in while stationed at Ft. Riley, KS, back when I was born, well, quite a few years ago. I'm not familiar with Army insignias as I was in the Air Force.

Hope your R&R is a good one!

I retired out of Ft Drum - the land of the "chosen frozen" - I'm nice and warm in sunny San Antonio!

    Good luck!

Here's a link to the White House blog on SSgt Giunta. What a warrior... image
  • I just read an article in this morning's Oregonian about the Medal of Honor going to SSgt. Giunta. It goes into a little more detail about the event. Man, you never know how you're going to react in those situations until you're actually there.

I'm glad to be an American!

This is true Mike - when I was an Infantry platoon leader - I told my guys - just let your training do it's job and rely on your intincts based on that training.

I've worked with some incredible people in my career - and they're all warriors!

Great advice! I'm sure the troops are getting some excellent training to fall back on. I think it would've been fun having you as a platoon leader!

I wonder if Goofball is getting some PMs in regards to his '71s. Wish I could've helped him out. I do have some raw cards, but he's looking for graded...
  • Thank you all for replying to my message, I am serving with a sustainment brigade that falls under the 4th Infantry Division here in Iraq but when I served with the 2/87 under the 10th Mountain Division in Afghanistan I fought some mighty battles in the Korengal Valley near the Pakistan border in 2006-07 and chose the 10th patch as my combat SSI and proud of it.. Its really cool to see one of our own yet again display courage and honor and glad the Defense Dept finally realized not all of our heroes have to perish to be awarded the CMH. Cool thing is in 2 days I get to go back to sunny Laughlin Nevada and cruise the Colorado River and leave Iraq behind hence just for 15 days then come back to COB Adder near An Nasyriah and finish up my tour....My set of 71's has been a challenge yet fun to assemble, and one day I will present it to my infant son to pass on down the line......This Jim Qualls # 731 card is killing me haha.....besides breaking up a Tom Seaver perfect game who the heck is he...

Jim Qualls -- read all about him!
  • I just received my March issue of The American Legion magazine and SSgt Giunta is pictured on it. That got me to wondering how SSgt Walker was doing with his '71 Topps set.

Hope all is well with you and your family...
