3 questions for ebay sellers about Best Offer

1) Let's say I have Steve young 1984 usfl rookie psa 8, and it usually goes for around $100 on ebay, but I list it at $400 with best offer. Do you think this will scare people away from even making an offer, since they're not going to pay anywhere close to $400 for the card. Or will they still try to make offers?

2) How fast would I get offers for a steve young 1984 usfl rookie psa 8 after I list it? Within 24 hours or it could go several days and not get any offers at all?

3) If you decline an offer, do you tell them what you'd take or do you not even respond to that person?
Thanks for your help everyone.

    Here is my opinion...

I WOULDNT EVEN MAKE AN OFFER WITH A RIDICULOUS PRICE LIKE THAT...WOULD FIGURE SELLER WANTS WAY MORE THAN I WOULD BE WILLING TO PAY.

    2) How fast would I get offers for a steve young 1984 usfl rookie psa 8 after I list it? Within 24 hours or it could go several days and not get any offers at all? DEPENDS ON HOW RARE THE CARD IS AND HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR IT...COULD BE IMMEDIATELY OR NEVER.

    3) If you decline an offer, do you tell them what you'd take or do you not even respond to that person? I WOULD FIGURE OUT WHAT I WANT FOR IT AND COUNTER WITH THAT NUMBER...IT ALWAYS PISSES ME OFF WHEN PEOPLE DONT BOTHER TO RESPOND.

    Good Luck

So Michael Jordan rookies you sell here significantly below market value, but 1984 Steve Young USFL cards are the ones you want to make sure you get full value for?

You might get some offers, but why post a silly BIN like $400? there are a bunch of PSA 8 Youngs currently listed with BINs of less than $200.

I wouldn't even make an offer!

The things I have listed with BIN or BO sometimes I get 1 or 2 low ball offers within 24 hours. Usually though I won't get any offers until the last 3 days of a 30 day listing or no offers at all.

    3) If you decline an offer, do you tell them what you'd take or do you not even respond to that person? >>

Usually I will send them a counteroffer that gives them 48 hours (which usually results in them making a counteroffer), but of course that is automatically withdrawn if I sell it to someone else before the 48 hrs is up.

if the Young usually sells for 100 why not put a BIN at 179/199 or BO and let it roll. JMHO

Hey bobby, I'm not actually selling a 1984 steve young psa 8 card. The question I wrote was "Let's say I had a steve young...". This was merely a hypothetical question. I was wondering what a popular modern card was and I just picked steve young out of the air and used it for an example for this question.

Thanks for those who responded to the questions.

I would figure that if I made a best offer of $100 I would make your BBL.

  • I'd avoid buying from a seller who jacks things up 4x's what the going rate would normally be.

I agree....I made a VCP offer one time for a card. The card was grossly overpriced. I figured my offer would be accepted since it was NOT a thinly traded card, was a common, and had sold very recently at that level several times. He countered me by knocking off $5 from his original price, like I insulted him. DON'T DO ME ANY FAVORS - I was thinking to myself. I never bid on or looked at his cards again......

I would not even make an offer on an item that the seller wants 4x above fair market.

No offer from me. 4x the going rate is extreme. I know, we live
in a free market economy and the seller has the right to list his cards at
    any price.
  • Everyone seems to be in agreement that very high bin prices isn't a good practice. Thanks for the advice. I appreciate your responses.
    Thanks for your help everyone.
  • I wouldn't even waste my time time with grossly overpriced BIN/BO items.
