Opinions on Jim Brown rookie PSA 8 on the Bay....

Is this card REALLY look like a PSA 8 to everyone? Anyone know if the Craigslist gang had anything to do with this one?

Something about it just doesn't look sharp for an '8'....

Wow Bobby ... that's a "SIX" if I sent it in to be graded! NO WAY that deserves to be in an "8". Damn card even looks dirty!

Looks like the one I had back in the day (early 2000's)...I bought the slab and not the card - fugliest 8 I've ever seen.
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.

I think it looks fine. Definitely seen many worse Brown 8's.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • Id sure like to have it. Great centering and solid corners.

A lot of this sellers' cards don't look that great in the
scans, but appear much nicer in person.

They need to buy a new scanner.
  • I'm with Andy on this one. I've seen many worse 8's and that issue is chronic for out of focus and "snow". The centering is very good.

I have a '6' that I bought from a fellow forum member on here....it has nowhere near that amount of snow in the black. Plus mine doesn't have lines and stuff in the wooded background. I am looking to upgrade, but I am not so sure this is really much of an improvement over my '6'......

Large scans make every flaw look worse than they actually are, I too have dealt with this seller

card will probably look better in hand. That's if you want to take the chance.

With ebay the way it is buyers can use sellers as an approval system.

    Good for you.

It may be the scan but I don't think I would take any chances. I just checked the population report for PSA and there are 174 in PSA 8 and the SMR was $2250

    62 Jim Brown (R) (HOF) 200 315 600 865 2250 4500 15000

There are a total of five on EBAY and I would think for a card in this price range if it takes spending a few extra hundred bucks to know for certain you are getting a great card I think it is worth it. There are only two 8.5's and the price of those is double so finding a high end 8 seems worth the extra money to me. I don't collect football but clearly this is a major rookie and the better it looks in that holder is obviously really important for resale if you ever choose to. If the card turns out to look like the scan you posted I think you will encounter this same delima for future buyers should you choose to move it and you will have buyers remorse if you spend this kind of money and it turns out looking like the card pictured.

    Good luck either way.

Count me in .No problems with Sundiego.

  • For whatever reason all the cards that this seller lists for sale look like crap. I have actually messaged them before asking if the card that I was interested in looked as dirty as the scanned portrayed. Funny thing is, there is a similar thread about the same seller going on right now in the Post War Section over at Net54. I have never purchased from the seller, and will probably stear clear.

    WHY???????????

He is one of the most reliable dealers out there. Just because of a crappy scanner????????????

The insinuation is that he is dishonest and that is clearly not correct about sundiego.

I have bought from SunDiego before and have been pleased in the past. That being said, I firmly believe you should buy the card, NOT the holder. That '8' looks bad enough to the point where I am questioning if it is a CL fake or not....

I've purchased from Sundiego - no problems - highly recommend.

Had to tell with that card - not a good scan - one can always ask for a better scan?

Don't love the card, don't hate it.

I'm not insinuating the seller is dishonest. The seller has an excellent track record, and there are enough people around here that have had good experiences with him.

What I am saying is that either most of his cards are low end for the grade, or he needs to purchase a new scanner. Both of which prevent me and will prevent me from purchasing cards from him.

Card doesn't look like an 8 2 me.

I was ripped off by this seller several years ago for about $600.00

Never sent items...claimed they were lost in mail and insurance claim was put in. Well my trust in people got the better than me.

As soon as the time period to file a claim was up...still nothing and wouldn't answer my emails.

Seller is a common crimminal in my eyes.

Interesting, first time I have heard an issue with this guy

  • I've never had a problem with the seller.
They ship quickly and have very reasonable
shipping rates. It looks like they have an old scanner
that makes many cards look low end for the grade.
Having crappy scans doesn't equate to dishonesty.

Jay, sorry this happened to you. Question: If the card you bought
from them got lost in the mail and you filed a postal claim, I would
think they (the seller) would've cooperated with you on it. No?

How is the seller at fault if something gets lost in the mail?
Unless they addressed the package incorrectly. Once it
leaves the seller's hands, it's passed on to the middleman
on the transaction, which is usually USPS, UPS, Fed EX., etc...
to do their job and make sure the item arrives to the
    correct destination.

Are you saying they didn't help you with the lost package claim?
If that's the case, I'd be hot about it too.
