33 1 17263589 NEAR MINT-MINT 8 1961 TOPPS 47 NL PITCHING LEADERS VERTICAL BLACK BAR Card US

Ok, I didnt even put Vertical black bar on the sub. And just realized that this was on there. Can anyone shed some light on this. Is this a new variation or whats the deal?
Also why is this not in the master set?
Thanks

Definitely a variation, but I didn't realize that PSA was noting it on the flip. Here's an image (stolen) that shows no vertical bar, and a 2nd image (not as much stolen since it's my card) that shows the bar (above the right side of Vern Law's cap).

There are 338 copies of the "No Vertical Bar" currently in circulation and three of the "Vertical Black Bar" variety. Since PSA has only recently started recording the variation, I'm sure there are many "Vertical Black Bar" cards (such as mine) ensconced in unmarked slabs.

A quick check of current eBay auctions showed no other "Vertical Black Bar" cards. I have no idea of the true ratio.

    Hi Bob

Can that really be a variation? Looks more like a printing error.

    Good for you.

I wish more people had their cards scanned for their registry sets. That way we could at least get a feel for how many have the "bar". Anyone else out there have a scan that shows it?

Very obvious print line as evidenced by mass of print scuff lines at the top edge.

The line next to Law's hat is definitely a print line that extends up to top edge. Are you sure the black line they're talking about isn't the I next to the 19 in Burdette's games won?
  • KbKardsKbKards Posts: 1,782 ✭✭✭
Confirmed that the variation is the I next to 19 in Burdette's wins. A quick check shows many with it and without it.

If it was covering a vulgar phrase, now then we would have something.

Are you kidding. The guy won 191 games that year. That is a record that will never be broken. This card is worth at least 90,000.00 or a 1952 Topps Mantle PSA 8.

I own this card in a PSA 9 (oc). I'll dig it out and see if its got that bar thingy.

    Good call KB

That IMO is more significant than the print line.

My set is in a binder. I have just a few keys graded.

I'd prefer a vg/ex example of this card.

    Congrats on getting it holdered.

Mine has the vertical bar, which makes me think it may be the more common.
