Question about buying autographed footballs.

Simple question about autographed footballs. I am looking around eBay and wanting to pickup a couple auto balls for my father for his upcoming birthday. I see that for PSA/DNA there isn't too much to choose from. What other companies can I look for on the Bay that I can hopefully pickup a ball and not have to worry about it being fake?

As always thank you.

Steiner, UD Authenticated are two that come to mind
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set
  • James Spence or JSA also.
Any team on any given Sunday, can beat any other team...unless they were playing the Miami Dolphins in 1972.
  • All the above, plus tristar and AAA.

Also, many players have their own hologram's now. So any ball with a player hologram.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

So is a company like GAI junk? Was looking for a Chris Johnson ball and seems everything on the bay is w/ COAs from these folks.
  • GAI is pretty much junk, they used to be a decent company then went through bankruptcy and pretty much lost their credibility among collectors. PSA/DNA and James Spence (JSA) are the leading 3rd party authenticators in the country. In most cases they didn't witness the autograph, but are authenticating the autograph as legitimate. There are also memorabilia companies that contract with players and teams (Steiner, TriStar, Mounted Memories, Upper Deck Authenticated (UDA), GTSM, etc) that witness the signings and put their holograms on the items. Lastly, as a previous poster mentioned, some players have their own hologram (Elway, Montana, Young, Rice, Peyton, etc) that they put on memorabilia they sign. I would stick to purchasing items that come with COAs and holograms/stickers from these companies.
