Jordan Star Cards, VCP?

Signed up for a 1-month subscription on VCP. I see prices for his early Fleer cards, but not Star. Is there a place that I can find it there? If not, why not? Also if not, does anyone know where I might be able to dig up pricing on those cards, so that I can potentially buy one with some pricing knowledge?

Thanks!

  • VCP quit recording sales of cards that are still be printing 25 years later.
  • if you really must have one be sure to do your homework - but I think it's almost impossible to tell the originals from the recent reprints.

  • So, will the grading companies not grade them? Or can't they tell the difference either?

I may be totally wrong, which I am quite frequently image, but I think that Beckett will grade them.

Lots of wrong info on star cards in this thread...

Do a search it's been discussed a few times.

Agree with dizzle. You can get a graded Jordan Star rookie from BGS, GAI or the old SCD.

When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Was it real or was it a fake that managed to get slabbed?
  • What's unique about Star that allows people to make perfect counterfeits, but can't do it for Fleer, Topps, etc.?

as Dizzle said anyone interested can do 2 minutes research and see they are fine... or you can just make stuff up and talk about possibilities without having a informed opinion.

Good question. I would like to know the answer to that too.

  • I believe with Star they themselves were running off more sets after the first ones got popular and expensive.

For prices just check completed auctions on ebay.

I don't thinK star made more regular cards I think the subsets were produced after the original year for qvc. That being said there are a ton of jordan fakes out there. I would only buy a bgs slabbed one. I think the border width and centering are 2 easy checks when looking for fakes
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here

Problem is only 4 have sold in the last 15 days. I'd like a little more history than that. (Plus none of them were higher than an 8...)

In addition, now there's this whole fake card issued, which I guess is addressed in the thread links. But even going back on those links I didn't find any info about why VCP doesn't provide pricing for the Star cards. By them not acknowledging Star, I get concerned even buying slabbed stuff. I guess the good thing is the slabbed stuff is guaranteed if I can prove the grading company got it wrong.

  • Just keep track of completed auctions on ebay. You can't go by historical data because the Star Jordan's have gone up in price since BGS started grading them.

BTW - Most people are clueless about the Star reprints. They did not reprint the 84-85 set; they basically made up new sets (printed in the 90's) and said they were from the 80's. Of course counterfeits still exist like they do for any card of value, but they aren't reprinted from Star plates.

I thought I had a sales sheet where it listed the actual sets but can't find it. Do have this one from 1996.

I wouldn't touch those cards with a 10 foot pole. I have zero confidence in Beckett and GAI.

At one point VCP listed cards sales for Star Basketball. I think they pulled the plug on it, because there were so few transactions and at the time GAI was the only one grading them. Since that time Beckett has started grading them.
