Question about framing a stock certificate

I'm getting ready to cut the matte for framing my '33 Kansas City Blues stock certificate and had a quick question. As you can see in the top left side of the scan there is a section of the cert that is folded back and leaves the left side out of square. Would it hurt the value of the cert at all to refold that side to make it look nicer in the frame? Any feedback would be great.

  • I do not think so, considering the overall condition of the item itself.
  • If you are covering the cert with a matte, what you see will not be out of square (unless you cut the matte opening crooked).

Having said that, there is no way to matte the cert as is without part of the seal in the lower left being blocked. So I'd suggest you refold it. As the other poster said, given its condition, another fold isn't going to impact the value much at all. After you create the new fold probably would be a good idea to keep it pressed under some heavy books for at least a few days.
  • Any decent framing shop can frame the certificate so both sides can be seen if you so wish. Depends on if you want to be able to see both sides or not. The matt will take care of the border problems. But, then again it's 77 years old, what's wrong with showing the wear?
