I got the Antique Roadshow's Noel Barrett to authenticate something for me - way cool!

I now have two areas - nonsport - that I'm working on.

One is the lobby cards of movies I saw as a kid at the Matinee - Sci-Fi/Horror/Thrillers.

Another which is new - the toys of my childhood.

I found this one on ebay - Dick Tracy Squad Car No. I - friction type.

After I bought it, I wondered if these things were repro'ed - a little late to be thinking of that!

Two things got me thinking - one the car was in great shape next to others I found in past auctions from the net and the second the bottom was black and the ones I found were silver.

So - I decided to contact Noel Barrett - Toy Expert - Antique Roadshow.

I got this email today:

not a repro - but a good buy

NB

Not very warm and fuzzy - but what the heck - it was a free consult!

Here's the car:

Also - and my last item of my buys - I'm out of budget thru November!

A Tinker Toy Set - this one is probably from the 30s or 40s?

  • I think I saw that same Dick Tracy car purchased on the American Pickers show about a month ago.
  • very cool and very nice.

I wish the Antique roadshow would get close to me Have a oil painting and a silver 18th century pillbox that I would love to learn more about.

for laughs and giggles took the pillbox to treasure hunters roadshow were they also buy/try to steal items and all they could tell me was it looks like silver and if you let us test it and it is silver we will give you 12.00 (yea right I'll throw it in the river 1st) turned down 100.00 back in 1981.

Nice items Mike, I'd agree that the Tinker Toy set is from the 30's.

I'd think the car is as well. Probably later than the set though.

    Thanks for sharing.

Nice Mike. Brings back memories... Replaced one of my childhood ones. Photo is just a copy below -- I bought mine still sealed in the original box two years ago on Ebay for $400.00

Voyage to the bottom of the Sea Sub---always thought it was a cool toy. Especially when you put the seltzer tabs in it to propel around the bath tub!!

  • The car looks like a cross between an old Mercury and/or Hudson, 1949, 1950 era. That was probably close to the Dick Tracy hey-day. I have some Dick Tracy comics from 1959 through maybe 1961 and quit buying them. The cars in Dick Tracy always looked similar to the one you have. The car is probably mid to late 50's.

Cool car. i am lucky that my mother never threw away my old toys (early 70's) unless they were in really bad shape. Good thing I took care of them. The best part is that she also kept all of the boxes so that she could store them after i was done playing with them. I have a whole closet full of boxed toys from the early 70's.
