£2 Britannias... 2 categories

I'm hoping somebody could help me out with something.

When I look up the PCGS Proof £2 Britannias, several years have mulitple PCGS series numbers.

Data:
163086 1997 £2 Britannia PR
619021 1998 £2 Britannia PR
169028 2001 £2 Britannia PR
167866 2003 £2 Britannia PR
163087 2004 £2 Britannia PR
550604 1997 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
396095 1997 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
389197 1998 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
396096 2001 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
550602 2003 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
396097 2003 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
550601 2004 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
396772 2004 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
140771 2005 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
500508 2006 £2 Britannia Gold Plated , DC PRDC
147451 2006 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
393431 2007 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
500506 2008 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
408478 2008 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
500505 2009 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
412495 2009 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
500501 2010 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
419687 2010 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC

I can see why there would be 2 different numbers for the PR and the PRDC, but would you be able to tell me the differences are for the years that have 2 numbers and the exact same description? E.g.

500505 2009 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC
412495 2009 £2 Britannia, DC PRDC

I already tried sending a question using the "Ask PCGS" forum, but I haven't received any responses.

Anybody know where there are duplicates? Which ones are the right ones?

Sometimes multiple identical coins get different PCGS numbers.

Any idea why? That doesn't make much sense to me at all.

  • Redundancy exists in every company! In this case, I think whoever assigns PCGS series numbers may have forgotten to look up already assigned series numbers for these Britannias. There is also a possibility that the data base was down so he couldn't look up the existed series numbers; so instead of waiting for the data base, he decided to give the coins new series numbers. In a different situation, 2 exactly same coins, but one was graded PR and the other was graded SP. This happened to many French Essai coins when PCGS started assigning SP grades.
