2009 Bowman Red 1/1 Unnumbered Backdoored

2009 Bowman Red 1/1 Unnumbered. Listed in Beckett online checklist. Unsure if Topps is aware or really care. I plan on contacting them either way. The printer they likely contracted out for these, should be banned from future jobs, IMO.

I think there was 64 different players to recently hit the market. Unsure if there's others. Lookout for fake 1/1's from this set !

*edited to add- I am not 100% positive these were backdoored. Just an assumption.

Here are 19 unnumbered and the real numbered 1/1 I recently picked up.

That sucks. Have you seen any football or only baseball?
  • Only know of one for Football- Although Topps has said they were issued, not backdoored. 2009 Topps Rookie Premiere Autos. Topps has confirmed via Twitter that these cards are the player issue cards issued by the company to the players for trading amongst themselves at the premiere. They are *most likely* real autographs, but it is still in your best interest to think twice before purchasing. They do not say "Topps Certified Autograph Issue." Notorious scammer Burge and others, seemed to have these 1st.

Baseball- Pinnacle 1997 Mirror Golds, 2009 Bowman Red 1/1 (unnumbered), 2006 Bowman Gold Refractors (unnumbered), 2006 Sterling Black and Gold Refractors (unnumbered), 2007 Bowman Chrome Tim Lincecum Refractor Auto. Theory is that the auto was added after being "backdoored". Unsure if sticker is legit or lifted from other cards and finally there is not 100% proof these were even backdoored at all.

2008 Bowman Chrome (Topps bought these back from ebay) Never was made clear if they were illegally obtained or lost in mail to Topps and legally purchased.)

    1,482 Rene Rosoni autographs
480 of 500 Rene Tosoni Refractor autographs
241 of 250 Rene Tosoni Xfractor autographs
142 of 150 Rene Tosoni Blue Refractor autographs
44 of 50 Rene Tosoni Gold Refractor autographs
23 of 25 Rene Tosoni Orange Refractor autographs
24 of 25 Tim Bascom Orange Refractor autographs

And unconfirmed random bits from a quick Google search.. 97 Donruss signature got cards stolen out of their car.
I think 97-98 Skybox autographics had one or two rookies I think it was Tim Thomas was one and someone from 1997 UD Legends football. Where a few cards showed up signed on ebay with UD coa on the back, but were never returned for pack out or redemptions.

    I'm sure there's alot more. ...

  • On the Beckett board, someone said...

Those unnumbered red 09 Bowman are from uncut sheets topps gave out to their distributors. My local card shop gave out 1 uncut sheet for every 09 bowman box you bought. I own 4 of the sheets. They say "property of the topps co/not for resale" on the bottom of the sheet. Somebody must have has theirs professionally cut.

Sounds kinda odd. Anyone know a distributor?

Just learned.....2009 Bowman Sterling Football Red 1/1 were given to distributors as full sheets. Without sticker or Jersey. Cut up and many were sold on ebay around Jan/2010
Another collector recalled seeing the same with the 2008 cards.

So they gave distributors Red sheets of 2009 Baseball as well. How long until scammers start stamping these? So it is possibly Upper Decks fault (known printer for Bowman and other high end Topps cards) or Topps? Would a simple email really do anything? Didn't think so. Anyone?

  • I ended up buying one of these uncut sheets. I'll post pics tomorrow.

    Players on the sheet-

Swisher Cruz Markakis Greinke A. Ramirez Utley Galarraga Dunn Sanchez Zimmerman Parnell Ibanez Cook Berkman Victorino Jacobs Dewitt Outman Atkins Polanco Bedard Longoria Cueto Wells Webb Reyes Davis Francoeur Fowler Weaver Maysonet Soriano Bradley Ordonez Abreu Sandoval Fielder Jaso Duchscheror C.Young Kotchman Belliard Posada Beltran Furcal Youkilis Rodriguez Martinez Drew Byrd Hughes DeJesus Braun Beckett M. Ramirez C. Young Herdon Hermida Ellsbury Miranda Garza Kershaw D. Lee Lincecum Griffey Jr. Hardy Jurrjens Pena Jeter Hudson C. Lee Nady Molina Volquez Molina Soto Konerko Maine Coke Jones McClouth Cano Olsen Werth Smith Drew Carpenter Morneau Sabathia Figgins Perez Dye Ka'Aihue Moyer Kazmir Bay Gamel Martis Zambrano Holliday Delgado Antonelli Cantz Cain Baisley Damon H. Remember when buying 2009 Bowman Red 1/1's to closely examine the stamp as there was a minimum of 20 sheets cut up and I know of 4 uncut sheets.

  • The sheet I posted, 106 of them were sent to one person. 44 of sheet #3. That's just CRAZY.....

Sheets came from the printer in TX to MA then cut cards showed up in CT. Look for fake stamped ones in those areas. Esp. at card shows. Until they spread.....

Do the fake stamped ones look any different from the real stamped ones?

I have not seen any faked stamped ones. I assume it's only a matter of time though. None of the big names on the sheet have surfaced. Exception Longoria- had some sell. Topps is "looking into" this issue. I provided the name of the printer, employee etc.

A number of years ago, a bunch of 3rd party stamped "1/1" cards were flooding Ebay before they pulled the plug on them.

I never handled one, but from the pics it appeared that they were stamped with gold foil. 1991 Topps Desert Shield cards were faked by using gold foil stamping. With that kind of technology being around for this long, it seems like it'd be a very simple task to stamp "1/1" on a card.

I don't think Topps gives a rip about the secondary market. Once they do their direct sales fueled by whoever the hot player is at the moment, they've got their money in the bank and look ahead to the next release.

  • A little down the page you'll see Topps is "looking into it". Sure, like they have before. In 2006 when this happened. They sure fixed the problem.

Yeah I know about the counterfeit DS and that's why it's only a matter of time before someone stamps these.
