FSH: 1960 Topps Clemente PSA 7 NQ... but with a problem **SOLD**

**PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT BUYING THIS CARD!!!!**

About a year ago, I purchased the card pictured below for my Clemente registry set. It is graded PSA 7 NQ. Looked great, didn't think anything about it, happy with the purchase. Several months later, I was looking at the card and noticed there is a crease about 1 cm wide that runs through the middle of the card, top to bottom (t/b when the card is being held as pictured). The crease does not go all the way through to the back of the card. You don't always see the crease; the light has to be shining on the card from a certain angle for it to be noticed. But there is no question that it is there.

The case shows absolutely no signs of tampering. I don't know anything about the process of "spooning" out a crease, but from what I have read on this board this appears to be an example of it. Someone got rid of the crease somehow, sent it in to be graded, and the crease reappeared later. I think it is very, VERY unlikely that the grader at PSA could have missed it and given this card a 7.

(I am not accusing the seller of anything. I have no way of knowing whether he knew the crease was there or not.)

Anyway, it's still a nice card- but now that I know the crease is there, it bugs me, and it's always going to bug me. So I might as well cut my losses and replace the card with a different '60 Bob at some point. I paid $128 shipped for it. My asking price is half of that- $64 shipped- which is probably about what a nice 5 goes for- which is what this card actually is. image

Paypal preferred but will accept MO as well. PM if interested!!

If you send the card to PSA with a small note attached similar to what you have stated here, once they verify that the slab has not been compromised, they might make you whole and take the card off the market, or they may regrade it properly and give you the difference in vouchers.

That is the route I'd take before losing $60+ on the card.

    What Nam said.

I've done this in the past. PSA eats their mistakes well.

Thanks for the advice..... the thing is, in my opinion PSA did not make a mistake! I think the chances are extremely remote that one of their graders could have missed this, and if that crease is not there, the card is indeed an accurately graded PSA 7.

If this happened the way I think it happened, PSA is in no way liable.

No one knows for sure that it was spooned. Is that a giant possibility, yes. But the possibility also remains, no matter how small, that PSA just missed it in haste. Is it there now? Yes, and that's all that matter, not the history of it. I have no doubt that PSA will rectify.

I can see both sides of it, I guess. I do believe that PSA would make good on the situation, but I'm not sure how I feel about asking them to do so.

A sale of this card is now pending. If the deal falls through, then I suppose I've got some thinking to do. image

I do not know hhmag's intentions (or even if he is the potential buyer), but if you do sell it, the buyer may do what I said and get PSA to make THEM whole instead of you. Then all you're left holding is a $64 lesson.

I guess all you need to worry about now is what happens if you meet a stranger in the Alps. image

Regardless of how this happened there is a good chance PSA would like to get this card out of the marketplace and into its proper holder.

I agree with you Ralph, and although it isn't the OP's obligation to do so, I was hoping that was going to be his route.

This one is turning into a learning experience for me on several levels.
I do not know what the buyer's intentions are- but if he chooses to send it to PSA for review and collect reimbursement, I would have no problem with that at all.
