1979 Topps Hockey Box RIP from BBCX SOLD & ALL PAID ! fergie23=Gretzky

Well I have had a roller coaster ride of a summer from a daughters wedding to funerals to birth annoucements and I am looking for a diversion back to where my mind is happy and relaxed and excited. Hockey is not huge on this board, but there are some passionate guys here and I was crossing my fingers that we could put this together. I contacted Steve Hart at BBCX and he offered a discount to $65/pack for us to break his 1979 Topps hockey box.
The complete set is 264 cards and there would be almost 400 cards in the box break so there is a chance of more than 1 Gretzky.

Since Neil responded, just a funny note.

Shortly after Neil ripped a pack or 2 of 1976 Topps, his 13 year old son wanted to know when he was going to bust the $42 packs. Guess he thought they were supposed to have shiny cards in them if they cost that much.

doh - nice catch that was a copy and paste mistake.
It is listed wrong in the SMR and I didn't catch it.
Melrose was #386 on the OPC which has 396 cards

Barry Melrose isn't in the Topps set, only the OPC set, which has 396(?) cards.

He is not in Topps only the O-Pee-Chee set that has 396 cards. Topps is only the first 264 cards of the O-Pee-Chee set.

Let me first say I know nothing about hockey cards and have just seen some of the prices of Gretzky.

Is the reason the O-pee-chee worth more in high grade becuase there are more cards in that set making it less probable you will pull one out of a pack?

Or is it a condition or printing run issue vs the Topps card?

It's both, the Topps were produced in much greater numbers. And the standards at OPC at the time were terrible. PSA allows for rough cut OPCs, but that barely helps

I just paid. I guess I misunderstood. I thought you had to buy insurance, but looking at Neil's last message, it must be optional. The single pack with insurance was $70.15. I guess when you know you are going to have a Gretzky inside, you need the insurance!

I bought a 1979 Topps hockey box a couple months back from BBCex and I believe it was from the same source as mine. The cards were in alot better shape then I thought they'd be in. Only 1 Gretzky was in there. I'm hoping there's 2 in this one. The cards hardly had any dinged corners. I missed out on this rip but good luck to all.
