    first of all, welcome!

second, Black Diamond was the bison that lived captive at the Bronx Zoo and served as the model for the "Buffalo" Nickel (that's about all i know)

but let's clear the air here.........arent you the guys that had the hot girls in the Ebay ads???

The name Black Diamond was given to the animal while it performed under a circus top. It's transfer to a New York City zoo gave Fraser the chance to view and sketch it. Black Diamond met an unusual end by being sold to a restauranteur and at the age of 22 wound up as buffalo steak. It is hoped that his aged spirit gained revenge by enforcing a touch of indigestion to anyone who had the temerity to pay for their dinner with a buffalo nickel. (Lee Martin from Coin Bulletin page 5 Feb.1967)

There is a better account and history of the animal in Annette R. Cohens book "The Buffalo Nickel" but I don't have time to copy at this time and will do so later if no one else does~ don-Gemini

Inquiring minds wanna know what Shawna's fate was? She sure looked better in their ads on eBay than Kenny does.

Buy a copy of "Renaissance of American Coinage 1909-1915." The story is there including photos and info direct from the bison's mouth.

Are they still in business? Haven't heard much about them lately. They they used to be a regular topic here a few years ago.

Agree. Different buffalo on the 1901 $10 bill. I read somewhere that this buffalo's name was Pablo.

Although Black Diamond is no longer with us, his offspring like Blue Spade here, still carry on his legacy, albeit with a little bit more horn.
