...someone gets lucky and finds a lincoln cent, 1955 doubled die approximately high AU. it has a tar spot on it about

an eighth inch or so over the head of lincoln. you'd like to have it slabbed at PCGS but wanted the 'soil' removed

first, but didn't want to try it yourself. would you send it to NGC to have it professionally cleaned THEN send it off to PCGS

for grading? or does PCGS ALSO clean coins professionally? and if so i guess the coin could go to them right off the

bat. image what think you? image

You mean NCS. If you're afraid to do it, send it to them, that's their business. I don't think PCGS cleans coins.

I know I've sent PCGS coins for spot review and they did clean and reholder them. Not sure it's something they do otherwise though.

I've always had bad experiences removing spots like 'tar' on copper. Always seem to end up with an unnatural looking 'bright' spot where the tar was.
    Good luck with this one.
