How do you know the grade? The slab grade is based on the obverse and reverse.

    << <i>64 shot 65 >>

So Mark, if the reverse of this coin has old english script that says
    FOR LOVE OF MATILDA
    your saying it's still a 64 shot 65?? image

I agree the obv looks to be a strong 64.

Yes, that's what I'm saying (about the obverse grade), as the reverse grade does not affect it in the least.image
  • MS-63, shot MS-64 - is there a possible issue below the W of WE? All else looks really nice.

I'll be shocked if it's an au.

I am with the MS 64 crowd. This is a huge blowup that makes any marks look overblown. In real image size, I bet this one is a beauty.
  • image It's not AU ... the camera focuses on the top of the slab making the coin ever so slightly out of focus. You also get to see the scratches on the slab. It's a small point 'n shoot.. for what it is it seems to be doing a decent job. In hand the coin is super nice.

  • W/o reading any other opinions, I'd go MS64.

Based on that, I will raise my "64 shot 65" to 65, shot 66.image

    A 58 with a Longacre Plus™ and a Longacre Sticker™ is far more valuable than a 65. image

Finally someone who agrees with me image It's also shot under a halogen lamp, which will emphasize every little imperfection which would normally go unnoticed under incandescent lights. I quick-shot all my Morgans (and other US coins) and it makes them look like they were swallowed by bull along with 20 lbs of steel shot and taken to the rodeo. I can't get the colors on most of my coins to come out nice. Again, cheap camera, the only luxury is a copy stand.

At any rate.. it's in a 65 holder. I looked on H. and most of the 66s are not as nice and they shoot theirs under much better conditions. I was considering sending in the coin for a + (or a (hopefully gold) CAC bean???). I've sat on it for a long time and am going to sell it and all the copper/silver US coinage. No more time... and VAM picking has lost its appeal. It all just sits in the bank vault anyways and my wife is getting tired of coin stories. At least my daughter likes "monniees", but she has no say image .

Well, I'd oblige, but the snap is not there. Either skipped it, bungled it (and deleted) or the holder was too scraped up (and I deleted it). I'll image it again and upload it... or perhaps I have an old pic flying around. It's white with golden rims. Nothing about Matilda on it. image

Based on the Obverse, I'd call it a 65.
