This is an 1880-P Morgan VAM-25 with the die chip chin obverse. However, I cannot attribute the reverse that it is matched with. The reverse is a highly polished die as depicted by the floating leaves in the left wreath. It also has a dieclash (inside right wreath) and appears to have complete doubling of the peripheral elements; especially the left legend, both wreaths, the bow and motto. ONE DOLLAR does seem to have some very slight doubling. According to VamWorld the die marker for the VAM-25 rev is a rectangular chip with two dots above it on the 9th outer right wing feather. This specimen lacks the reverse diemarker, but clearly displays the diechip chin on the obverse!

Any comments or ideas are welcome as always!

Double-date 1-80 obverse. Note the chip on the lower left outer loop of the first 8.

Close-up of doubling of 0, lower inside left loop. Note the small dot in the middle of the lower loop of the second 8 and inside the 0, middle-upper left. Both appear as black points in the image.

Very slight dieclash obverse neck. Probably too light and common to list

The VAM-25 obverse diemarker is the prominent chip on lady Liberty's chin.

small diecrack from D through left wing tip

Doubled Legend U N reverse. You can also see the floating leaf, results of the die polishing, and doubling of the leaves toward the rim.

Doubling of TRUST on top and left inner letters and legend bottom F serif toward rim

image

Doubling of the leaves in the right wreath. You can also see some doubling of the outer right lower serif of A toward the rim

What appear to be die gouges around the letters WE in the motto? What else could they be? They are definitely not surface scratches on the coin

Polished reverse - floating leaves in left wreath. Note also the doubling of the upper serifs of N E toward the rim.

Another floating leaf

Double clash marks between right wreath and eagle's left wing

Are the die chips in the wing?

    image

The polished leaves are on 25A. It's possible the late die state just wore the die chips off...
