Matt ... looks like you have a blue page underneath ... do you? If so, take it away and scan the card with the cover open. This is from my Epson 300. I probably don't have it at factory settings ... I think I played around with it a few times (sometimes accidentally) ... I can tell you what the setting are if you would like to know.

I'm actually going to run some slides and negatives through mine tomorrow. If they work out nicely, it will be well worth the $90 just for that feature alone. I love the scan of cards so much better than my HP...
Never took the time to read about the scanner, but if one of you does and finds a better setting, please let me know. Good luck guys. I've had the scanner for more than a year and I love it.

I love the Epson 300, but I only wish it didn't leave those glare marks on the PSA slabs. I can always tell when a card has been scanned by this scanner. Still love it though.
Looks good, Matt. I also scan (Epson Perfection V500) with the lid up in as dark a room as I can. I think the black background makes white borders and colors pop really well. However, if the card has a black border (like '71 Topps) I always scan with the (white) lid down or lay another colored piece of paper over the card. I'd also be interested to see your Ripken RC scanned with the lid open.

I rescanned all my cards this AM for my registry with the lid up, and a piece of black scratch board over the cards just to eliminate any light. Much better from what I had.

Waiting for your results as I am really curious how well it does the slides and negatives.
<< <i>got the v300 and using these settings as recommended by Dboneesq:
Home Mode Photograph Color Other 300 DPI
gonna mess around a little with the backgrounds and settings, but i'm pretty impressed with this scanner. it's so easy, even an above average idiot like me can use it. >>
LMK if you play around with the settings and find something that takes better pics.

Generated some images from some b&w negatives (Springsteen - No Nukes MSG - 1979), and some color slides (Cheap Trick and Judas Priest) using the negative/film feature of the V300... Still need to find my other negs and slides...
