Kevin Seitzer -- woah!

I bought a 1987 Fleer Wax box from Mr. Hart at the National and he was gracious enough to ship it (and some other materials) to my home. (It helps to know him for about 20 years
)
While pricing some of the cards out of the box -- I realized that if I were to "retail" the Kevin Seitzer RC -- I would be thrilled to get a quarter. I can remember not being able to keep these cards in stock at the $6-8 range in the winter of 1987.
Not just from that era -- but how about listing some of your favorite card value "drops".
Here's a 1990's -- version -- 1999 Bowman Wily Mo Pena --
and of course any 2001 Mark Prior
Let's hear of some of your favorite card "drops" and who you don't want to sell out of memory of great sells of the past
Regards
Rich

86 Donruss Canseco is mine. Sad.
But seriously, Barry Bonds... like a sound effect from a Road Runner cartoon.

1985: Howard Johnson, Eric Davis, Mark Langston, Cory Snyder
1986: Kal Daniels, Jose Canseco, Glenn Davis
1987: Ruben Sierra, Alan Anderson, Bo Jackson, Mike Greenwell, Devon White
1988: Al Leiter, Mark Grace, Greg Jeffries, Sam Horn, Ken Caminiti
1989: Hensley Muelens, Cameron Drew
1990: Kevin Maas, Dean Palmer, Juan Gonzalez, Carlos Baerga
1990, bought 5 packs of 1990 Fleer. Think they were $1 each at our one card shop. Pulled a Kevin Maas and a David Justice. Traded them both for a full box.
I miss those days.
1991 Pro Sets Super Pro card was 20 to 25 at one time now I doubt you could get a dime for them.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
<< <i>In all cerealness, in 1988 or 89 I paid $10 for 2 packs of 86 Donruss. Pulled a Canseco and traded it for a half a box of 86 Donruss. Pulled 2 more Cansecos. The Cansecos were selling for $100 each at the time. Card shop owner knew it was an easy $10 profit when he made the deal.

I couldn't touch packs of 1986 Donruss at that price here. They were $10-12 each with boxes $250-300.
My brother pulled the Canseco...and instantly creased it putting it in one of those old card holders that are two piece and pinch together...well, it pinched it.

<< <i>....but Seitzer was the ROY and I think they were like $5 here in Kansas. >>
I think they got as high as $12 to $15 around here. Then, of course, you had '87 Topps Traded, '87 Donruss Rookies and '87 Fleer Update. Those were probably trading at $8 apiece (with the Topps and Fleer glossy versions bringing more).
He was a helluva hitter in '87 with over 200 hits and an average over .300. Just couldn't maintain it through his career.
<< <i>Are there any cards from that era that have held their value? >>
There are a few but not alot. Griffey rookies have lost some but held up compared to some.
BST: Tennessebanker, Downtown1974, LarkinCollector, nendee
<< <i>Are there any cards from that era that have held their value? >>
Some Error Cards,
Greg Maddux,
Cal Ripken Jr,
John Elway,
(the last two seeing spike in value at the end of their careers),
Steve Young,
....more?
In the players above, all were successful and/or got really popular after/around 1995. There are likely other players that fit this...those who were not as popular in 1987-88 compared to their later career.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
<< <i>How about a few from a a small 6 year window:

Just wanted to add a few...
1987: Greg Swindell
1989: Steve Avery
1990: John Olerud
Steve
they're still completely worthless.

<< <i>I remembering opening a couple 1987 Fleer cellos packs with Will Clark on the front because I knew Seitzer was inside. It was tough to do....but Seitzer was the ROY and I think they were like $5 here in Kansas. >>
Growing up in KC, I was hoping Seitzer would win ROY but I think he came in second behind McGwire. Come to think about what's come out the last few years however, I guess Seitzer really was ROY in '87.

The "juicing era" for McGwire is said to have started in the early 90s, not the 80s.

Hendersons only sell for $100+ if they are in PSA 9 holders. Raw ones in nice condition can be had for $20-30
