I pulled this out of my pocket last night and was glad for the light by the cash register.
Anyone know what kind of price range this 1976 Washing Quarter missing both clad layers might fall or languish in? As a collector of copper tokens and not US coins I find this piece a nice cross-over.
Thanks!

Wow I just tried to post this reply using the word "salt water" except as one word. It would not let me post the message because "salt water" as one word countained a forbidden word within it. Funny stuff.
<< <i>I think that is post mint damage. Looks like it was put in acid or something like that. I have found some clad coins on the beach that took on that color also. Dont know if it has something to do with the salt water or what. I just expect that whatever happened to that coin...it happened after it was minted.

Clad quarters I have found on the beach have been a light olive green color, dont think I have seen one this color.
<< <i>I'm pretty sure I picked this one up when I was in New Mexico a few days ago. No Salt Water out there (hope I didn't offend anyone with that reference). I'd think that environmental or intentional corrosion would have damaged the reeding too yet that looks pretty good. >>
I have a bucket full of clad coins that I have recovered over the years with a metal detector, and many of them look exactly like that.

post mint damage of some type. Doesn't look like "sea water" damage.
Collect89's obverse
Collect89's reverse
What color dirt do they have in New Mexico? think thats where the red came from
