The "new" 1877 seems to have woodgrain toning, which I've never noticed before on a '77. Like one of the sultans told Moses in the Ten Commandments movie. " I wish I had your choice"
<< <i>OK, Charmy, now you are teasing us. Beautiful coins both old and new(I prefer your older coin), but where is the 1877 mentioned in your post? Jim >>

Thank you all again - it is a tough choice, honestly. I read each post and took each opinion into account, especially the ones that discussed the flaws. Each coin has its own unique qualities and they are all very different, but they all have really beautiful toning and eye appeal (at least to me). But after examining all the coins in hand and comparing them, and looking at each one's attributes as well as flaws, I have decided to keep the old 1877 and the new 1909-S vdb (though that old svdb is sure going to be hard to part with!). Again, thank you for taking the time to offer your opinions!
Wow, such problems to have! I think I read every possible combination of opinions.
Charmy, you told me you'd never replace the old '77! You said you'd never find a nicer one.
FWIW, I like the old S-VDB and the new IHC. The strike and detail on the new S-VDB isn't as nice. And I just love the look of the new IHC. Wonderful streaky colors.
I guess you should keep all four. That's the only sensible thing to do. Lance.

My very humble opinion. Keep your originals.
