1948 D Franklin Half Dollar question

jesbrokenjesbroken Posts: 10,665 ✭✭✭✭✭
I've been offered a 1948 D Franklin Half Dollar MS64FBL FS801 DDR in trade for an item. I have searched Heritage and Ebay and only found an MS66 example. Is their a place to find values of such a coin? Thank you

  • You could try the Teletrade price guide. Generally $100-$150 IMHO.

I wouldn't pay too much of a premium for this, as they are quite common, both the DDR and the '48D in FBL and in combination of the two aspects. I would say more like $40 - $50 for a nice coin at full retail.

  • I just picked up a 64 48 D DDR. Not labeled FBL but think they are and paid $28. Just for reference
  • I have found the 48_P DDR to be considerably scarcer than the D- counterpart.

But the P's don't show the same degree of doubling as the D's. Occasionally you will find a D with a really nice spread.

  • There are 7 different DDRs for '48-D and most are very similar. Make sure the coin is correctly attributed. I've seen examples graded by PCGS that were not the correct die.

As far as value, if it's in a PCGS holder then it's worth between $100-200 because of the Registry. If it's ANACS, ICG, etc. then $40-$50 sounds about right.

I just sold an ANACS MS-64 no FBL on eBay for $26.00.
